Obviously spoilers.

That's what i was wondering about. In the scene, Peter drops his "technology" on the ground but is not destroyed like Jean's. Metzger dissapears, probably with it. Is it possible that in this universe Damage Control creates sentinels based on the thing Peter created? They did have created a weapons and countermeasures for people with powers already. That's one theory of mine.

P.s. too bad there was no man-spider. But i have learned that dominant genes can be supressed by positive thinking.

Spider-Man accidentally sets up the human-mutant war!

100%. Expect Metzger to be back in the Mutant saga.

u/danvan177 Aug 01 '26

Yes dodc will be the main force behind exterminating mutants

u/henryeaterofpies Aug 05 '26

I lowkey want a Peter Dinklage as a Trask like character or cameo

2

u/Beginning_Amoeba_348 Aug 07 '26

Too bad Peter Dinklage already had a role as the blacksmith from infinity war, the one who helped create Storm Breaker.

4

u/henryeaterofpies Aug 08 '26

But Trask has a mustache

1

u/Beginning_Amoeba_348 Aug 08 '26

It’s Genius! why didn’t i think of that?

1

u/GlintingFoghorn Aug 08 '26

Multiverse! His Trask could just show up and it's another version of him.

2

u/zer021OO Aug 09 '26

This is the mutant saga my boy

6

u/mcilibrarian Jul 31 '26

Very on brand for this Peter

1

u/shesaysImdone Aug 01 '26

Really? I just saw a comment saying it echoes Tony Stark

1

u/mcilibrarian Aug 01 '26

Peter's "fixes" have a tendency to muck things up. Giving EDITH to Mysterio, the Dr Strange spells, and now the inhibitor

3

u/Crossovertriplet Aug 02 '26

Spider-Man uses flock cameras to track people

1

u/Delicious-Side-5405 Aug 09 '26

Even Det. Dewolff calls him out on that, yikes!

2

u/MasqueradeofAstroya Aug 03 '26

I mean Jean does more to justify. Anti mutant sentiment then anything Magneto has ever done

1

u/MrBushido56 Aug 01 '26

Spiderman “ oooof my b guys that’s my b “

1

u/butt4boobs Aug 04 '26

And hes gonna beat himself up so hard over it :(

Not to mention that the original inhibitor designed by Peter, didn't have a remote function originally. It was meant to be activated on contact and then deactivate when removed. In the short amount of time Damage Control had it, they modified it. That means that there's a full schematic of the device on their computers which have just been seized by the government.

u/a_paulling Aug 03 '26

I would be very surprised if they didn't have something similar in the works already, based on what they know of Banner's, just probably way less effective and not universal. They adapted tech to control it so quickly that they must have had some idea about it beforehand.

1

u/MostDopeBlackGuy Aug 04 '26

I was literally just thinking they should have banners it was dropped back at their headquarters

1

u/Riley__64 Aug 09 '26

The difference with Peter’s compared to banners is Peter’s was universal.

Banners tech was specifically designed for his mutation, you attach it to Peter and it won’t repress anything because it’s not built for his DNA. Peter’s one is universal you can attach it to any superpowered being and their powers will be repressed.

1

u/a_paulling Aug 09 '26

Yes I understand the difference. What I am saying is that I would be surprised if DoDC, prior to the movie, weren't already attempting to create something similar based on what they know about Banner's.

1

u/Riley__64 Aug 09 '26

Well from what we see of their tech it doesn’t actually seem like they’re super innovative, very much seems like a lot of their stuff is actually just working off of and improving what they already had like shockers gauntlets just become more dangerous gauntlets.

So I imagine if they had anything like banners tech it would be an improved version that’s focusing on suppressing gamma induced mutations.

Especially considering mutants are still a relatively new thing in the marvel world like it doesn’t seem like the DoDC is even aware of the X-Gene, to them all these superpowered individuals are still inheriting these powers from an external source like the likes of spider-man, hulk or Captain America so the idea of completely targeting super powers as a whole isn’t yet on their radar.

Like we see Kamala Khan, Simon Williams and now Jean Grey all being targets of the DoDC for being superpowered but it doesn’t seem like they’ve put that final piece in place that all these individuals get their powers from the same source.

1

u/a_paulling Aug 09 '26

They managed to interface with Peter's inhibitor in maybe a few hours, so they can't be totally crap, though I don't think they have any super geniuses like Peter working for them.

Yeah, they've been really careful to avoid using the word 'Mutant' in the MCU so far. I'm not sure how much the stuff with the Inhumans is still relevant either.

I was actually kind of surprised that Peter's inhibitor worked on Jean tbh, since in the comics the inhibitor collars target the X-gene, but Peter's doesn't because he doesn't even know that the X-gene exists. His is based on hormone suppression, which in theory means it could work on the average person as well e.g. set baseline aggression hormones really low and you've got a much more docile population.

1

u/Riley__64 Aug 09 '26

Yeah but it still shows them working on something that’s already there rather than working from scratch, it’s the difference between making a new phone from scratch and taking a broken phone and rebuilding it both are impressive but one obviously took less work.

I kind of feel like at this point in the MCU AoS, cloak and dagger, runaways, inhumans all of that is likely no longer canon if marvel was going to make it canon they would’ve likely done it at the same time they recognised the defenders saga. If Inhumans ever do make a return I imagine it’ll be a fresh start as if this is their first appearance in the MCU.

Yeah Peter’s suppressor does throw a wrench in the whole universal thing but one possible explanation is it is just capable of detecting the thing that’s off about you so for Peter it was his hormone levels and thus it targets that for Banner if he had managed to attach it to him would have detected the increased gamma levels.

u/Osvetnik24 Jul 31 '26

Absolutely! I kept saying in my head, "Peter! Literally everyone keeps saying that inhibitor tech is a bad idea! Stop it!" He absolutely just gave the government the ability to make mutant dampening collars.

1

u/Slaphappydap Aug 10 '26

I think it speaks to just how dark and depressed he had become, which was established really well in the movie. His life has been falling apart, everyone he loves is dead or forgotten him, now it seems like it's getting worse and he'll do anything to stop it. It's his version of self-harm. And in that state, even a person with a heart as pure as Peter's, he'll do anything not to feel that way.

1

u/Buttercup_Clover Aug 13 '26

It's not the worst thing though... I mean yes it's going to be used by horrible people in the future most likely, but now the RAFT has an actual way to contain high level threats like Magneto if he ever makes an appearance.

It's clearly beyond just mutant inhibiting. It works against Peter, the hulk, probably even F4 and Captain's super serum.

u/M00NT0KKI Jul 30 '26

Yes, totally agree with you!

Several time they hint, foreshadow that the technology is very dangerous when used in the wrong hands. I mean at the end of the film we see Metzger using the tech to control Jean’s powers which means they most likely already know how to use/duplicate it. That was the whole point of DC to rebuild enemy technology for their own gain/personal use

21

u/Bedovian_25 Jul 30 '26

Oh yeah, they definitely know how to duplicate it because when Peter designed it, he didn't even give it a remote function at first. But the next time we see it in the scene with Jean, it's being activated and deactivated remotely.

17

u/Sure_Eye9025 Jul 30 '26

Hard to say whether they have duplicated it or not from that, they have it plugged in so they definitely took a look inside it and figured out how to wire it up

1

u/Worthyness Aug 03 '26

they also likely have the specs in some capacity on their servers. Jean destroyed a lot, but her powers don't fry the computers. Most of that will be recoverable. Perhaps they can't replicate it in full outside of the basic inhibitor portion and that's why they have to use collars rather than the tiny micro version Peter made

5

u/I_SmellFuckeryAfoot Jul 31 '26

remotely? they had a wire attached to it

8

u/Hnro-42 Jul 30 '26

I think this is Mutant Inhibitor Collars not Sentinels. I imagine Sentinels could come out of Armour Wars VisionQuest

6

u/Chitinid Jul 30 '26

Accidentally creating technology with serious unintended consequences? He really is the heir apparent to Tony

1

u/BookishBetty Aug 05 '26

But whereas Tony was always only thinking of himself, Peter invented it to keep from what could have been seriously dangerous mutations that would have kept him from functioning. He was not aiming to cure the planet, or put a suit of armor around the world, or whatever Tony kept thinking he was doing! And whereas Tony was always coming from a place of total and absolute privilege, Peter is an orphan raised by a deeply committed and loving aunt in a lower middle class home. Peter's biggest problem is being handed soooo much responsibility when very, very young. And as he grows into it, he will make better decisions.

2

u/Chitinid Aug 06 '26

Point here is more about unintended consequences having global influence. Understandable why he built it, but he's going to regret giving the tech to the government for the next decade

4

u/Smart_Bug_2410 Jul 31 '26

Was totally thinking about this, this is the genesis of sentinels in the MCU, and it makes a lot of sense in-universe. After years of not being hyped up by any marvel film, now I wonder how they will handle the mutants in a world with the rest of characters of the MCU.

2

u/SirSilverscreen Aug 02 '26

No, I think Peter's Inhibitor is the source for the Power Inhibitor collars we see in all of X-Men media. The way it works makes no sense for Sentinal functionality since they adapt to protect themselves from powers, not to stop the powers mutants have.

1

u/Sea-Poem-2365 Jul 30 '26

They had some time with Jean's chip too, their whole gig is repurposing stuff to their ends, I imagine they have a (worse) version of the inhibitor to base the early arcs of mutant movies off. Plus they connected Spidey directly to the movies in at least two ways (Jean and his misused tech).

Solid way to tee up future movies while serving the current one's story.

1

u/Naughtythrowaway9430 Aug 01 '26

I believe it was noted they aren’t doing man spider because marvel executives think the younger generations can’t handle it for being too sensitive which is just BS

1

u/danvan177 Aug 01 '26

Metzger will either be a replacement for Stryker or work for him
