Native macOS tool to bulk clean Apple Mail locally with zero network permissions (Free TestFlight)
I wanted to share Mail Assistant, a native macOS app built to work directly alongside Apple Mail to help audit senders, track inbox trends, and reclaim storage space across all your accounts.
🔒 Privacy & Safety First
· Zero Network Permissions: The app has no network access and cannot send data anywhere.
• The only permissions it needs: is access to the ~Library\Mail folder in order to do its job. No other folder access is needed. If you try to select a different folder that’s not the Mail folder it will reject it and prompt again to select the Mail folder. Nothing gets sent anywhere it literally just parses the index and allows you to have full visibility of what you have.
The second permission is Automation so that the app can send Apple Events to Apple Mail to do things like mar unread or mark read or move messages to folder or trash. You will be asked to confirm the action every time.
· No Account Logins: It works directly with the local mail database Apple Mail has already downloaded.
· Safe Cleanup: Actions use Apple Mail's local structure, including full Undo capabilities.
🛠️** Key Featu**res:
· Senders Report: Ranks every sender by message count and storage footprint (sorting by size is usually eye-opening).
· Advanced Search: Instant filter by sender, subject, date, folder, attachment, or body across all accounts, with CSV export.
· Inbox Trends: Weekly arrival charts, senders unread for >1 year, new unopened senders, and unread pile-ups.
· Header-Based Unsubscribe: Reads native unsubscribe headers to open in your browser, flagging if unsubscribing makes sense.
· Full Undo Log: Easily restore trashed messages to their original folders.
📱 Requirements & Beta Link:
· System Requirements: macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later + Apple Mail signed in.

I'd love your feedback on performance, UI clarity, or feature requests! Please comment below or use the TestFlight feedback button.
- Did you run into any bugs, crashes, or performance slowdowns?
- Is any part of the UI or workflow confusing?
- What additional filters or bulk actions would make this more useful for you?
- Try using sender report and sort by size, use the perform actions and undo them. Use the advance search with combination filters. Check out trends tab.
- Please test the Mail folder access by selecting a different folder. Report any prompts for permission that is not the Mail folder. In the report include MacOs Version and what the prompt said and asked for.
- Specifically looking for testers running MacOS 14-15 and 27.
- If you already installed a previous build please uninstall that and install new one so you can test out the initial setup grant access prompts as well. When you uninstall nothing of yours leaves or gets deleted. The Apple Mail index stays right where it is. Only the Mail Assistant app gets uninstalled.
