Some frequently-asked questions

Hello,

I have been pleasantly surprised at the number of people who have started reading the manhwa because of the anime, welcome!

But I notice some questions from these people that have come up multiple times, so I thought I'd write this up in case it is helpful for some.

  • Why are the names in the manwha different than the anime?
    • When the manhwa was first officially translated into English, the editors of Webtoon decided to change the characters' names to sound more localized, thereby being easier to remember and pronounce. Other comics by PTJ, which were translated later, tend to not localize names.
      • Park Hyung-Seok = Daniel Park
      • Lee Jin Sung = Zack Lee
      • Basco = Vasco
      • Hong Jae Yeol = Jay Hong
      • Kim Mi Jin = Mira Kim
      • Park Ha Neul = Zoe Park
      • Park Bum Jae = Jace Park
      • Choi Soo Jung = Crystal Choi
      • Lee Tae Sung = Logan Lee
      • Jin Ho Bin = Vin Jin
      • Pyeon Duk Hwa = Duke Pyeon
      • Park Jong Gun = Gun Park
    • Vasco's name is basically unchanged, but the Korean language has no equivalent for the letter "V", so the anime rendered it as "Basco". Vasco is technically the correct spelling, as Eutnae Lee's nickname was taken from a superhero of Portuguese origin
  • Where can I read the original manhwa?
    • Official English translation is found on Webtoon
    • Original Korean version is found on Naver
    • The English translation is several weeks behind Naver, so the latest episodes are not found on English Webtoon. Unofficial websites can be found that does translations by fans within 48 hours of Naver, commonly referred to as "scans". I am not linking them here
  • How faithful is the anime to the manhwa? Should I read from chapter one?
    • The anime is very close to the original manhwa, and in some cases (particularly art style and humor) is a slight improvement from the comic. If you skip the episodes covered by the anime, then you miss practically nothing
    • The anime did skip an entire arc from chapters 15-16, so you may consider reading that as well. That arc just shows Zack's date with Mira at the library, and explains why he gave up being a bully. The anime mentions this happening in episode 4, but doesn't show it.
  • The soundtrack for the anime is amazing! Where is it from?
    • The Lookism anime soundtrack was made by the kpop boy group ATEEZ. The opening song can be found on YouTube
    • The Webtoon of Lookism has a lot of music as well. The original chapter 27 (where Duke and Daniel sing) is accompanied by a song called "Beautiful Day" by Hyung Seok and Deok Hwa, which is also found on YouTube.
  • Does the rest of the manhwa focus on music as well?
    • Musical performances only play a significant role in a handful of arcs, and Duke Pyeon in general is regarded as a minor character. The last arc that is centered around singing is the PTJ Entertainment arc around ch. 97, which is also the last time Duke plays any major role.
  • What chapters are covered by the anime?
    • The anime covers most of the chapters up until chapter 27:
      • Episode 1: Ch. 1-3 ["Exposition" arc]
      • Episode 2: Ch. 4-7
      • Episode 3: Ch. 8-14 ["Breakout" arc]
      • Episode 4: Ch. 17-18 ["Vasco" arc]
      • Episode 5: Ch. 19-20 ["Jay" arc]
      • Episode 6: Ch. 21-22 ["Music Festival" arc]
      • Episode 7: Ch. 23
      • Episode 8: Ch. 24-27
    • You can pick up the manhwa reading from chapter 28, known as "Paprika TV" arc
  • What should I expect to happen immediately after the anime ends? [trying to be spoiler free]
    • The next arc in the manhwa is the Paprika TV arc. Because Duke was rejected from the talent company, then he and Daniel work on spreading his music through Paprika TV (the off-brand version of Twitch). This inspires everyone in the school to get into livestreaming, which sets off multiple minor plot points throughout that arc
    • Subsequent arcs of Lookism tend to be short, one-off adventures without an overarching goal until chapter 148, when the Major Crews are introduced
  • How much has changed in the manhwa 400 chapters later? [trying to be spoiler free]
    • Lookism has evolved into a saga of conflict between various different gangs and crews, each of which having their own unique ideologies, goals, backgrounds, and fighting styles. Starting around chapter 148, PTJ introduced a mythology where Seoul is divided between four different high school gangs or "major crews", which are collectively organized by a larger puppet master. By chapter 199, this has become the major focus of the plot, and by chapter 283 the older "slice of life" arcs completely disappear. Around chapter 355, this mythology is deepened as it is revealed that these major crews are only the latest of multiple generations spanning back to the 1980s
    • Most of the original characters are still around, but they have become much darker in tone and trained heavily to become more physically formidable. Many new characters have been added along the way who have complex backstories of their own
  • Is it ever explained why Daniel has two bodies?
    • As of the latest Webtoon episode 421, it has never been explained. But many hints have been given that suggest it is tied to the mythology of crews mentioned above
  • Does anyone ever find out Daniel has two bodies? [trying to be spoiler free]
    • As of the latest Webtoon episode 421, it has been revealed that three people had prior knowledge of the two bodies. Additionally, two people figured out the secret on their own, but circumstances prevented from telling anyone else
  • Does Daniel ever get into a romantic relationship?
    • As of the latest Webtoon episode 421, not officially. However, Ha Naeul / Zoe is effectively the person Daniel is most intimate with
  • I really dislike Ha Naeul / Zoe! Why do people like her?
    • Zoe starts having major character development in the arc immediately after the anime ends, around chapters 28-32. She becomes one of the first people to have an intimate connection with both of Daniel's bodies. Her character development reaches its peak at the same time as Daniel's around chapter 198
  • Wait I thought Yui was Ha Naeul?
    • Park Ha Naeul is the Korean name for Zoe Park. The Lookism anime gave her longer and straighter hair, which makes her look more similar to Yui Kim. Yui doesn't appear at all in the anime, as she was debuts in the Paprika TV arc. Regardless, you can easily tell them apart because Yui is drawn with distinctive glassy eyes that no other character has
  • Did the anime remove Basco / Vasco's tattoos?
    • No, Vasco has tattoos as can be most clearly seen in episode 4 when he takes off his shirt
    • Early promotions of the anime mistakenly made it appear that he didn't have tattoos
  • Will there be a season two?
    • There is no confirmation so far on a season two, and it is highly likely that they haven't started creating one yet
    • PTJ said in an interview that they will likely make a season two if season one is successful
  • Is Basco / Vasco the best boi?
    • Yes :)

Lookism theory by (Ranveer Tiwari)

I think James is Gaprayong Kim's second body, but James's body somehow gained consciousness. That's why, when Jinyoung died, he said that James Lee and Gaprayong Kim were then he died I guess that Jinyoung did an experiment on Gap's body with James's body, and when James's body somehow gained consciousness, he planned to kill Gap because he wanted to be the strongest, or he was just jealous of Gap. Hence, he went to Kiate Kim to learn how to fight, though he had a perfect body. Still, he didn't have skills; the same goes for Daniel Park at the start. He didn't have skills, but now he is climbing the ladder to achieve the peak; that's why James wants to kill everyone who knows about Gap's death, so no one can blame him. That's why he knows everything about the 2nd body. He wants Daniel to be a part of his plan because he wants his body to, cause daniels body is even more advanced. (This is my theory, ok) This theory connects several major mysteries in the Lookism manhwa—including the second body mechanics, Jinyoung Park's mental breakdown, and James Lee's true identity—though fans in the community have split into several competing interpretations. What if Gap had a Quest Window, just like the one Questism’s MC had? Maybe the Quest gave Gap a mission to defeat Kenzo and simply survive against Shingen. But instead of just trying to survive, Gap deliberately uses his full strength to defeat Shingen. However, even after giving it everything he has, he still fails to defeat Shingen—and Beak saves him in the end.

That could explain why Gap was willing to push himself so far against Shingen, even though his actual objective was only to survive.

Theory

I have a theory. When Shingen kills Gapryong, he will leave to go back. But then Daniel’s father will show up and fight Shingen, and he will defeat him.

After that, Shingen will become depressed because he has already said that his opponent is in Korea, but he has never mentioned Gapryong’s name.

Then Gapryong will receive treatment, and in order to save him, Daniel’s father will be needed. He will give some of his blood or DNA to save Gapryong.

But Elite won’t approve of this. When Daniel’s father uses his blood or DNA to save Gapryong, Elite will secretly steal some of that DNA and use it to create James, so that he can use that powerful body as his second body.

However, James’ body will eventually glitch or develop its own personality, just like James has his own personality now.

And while Gapryong is being saved, Eunha will also be saved using the same DNA.

Elite will then marry Eunha. Later, when Elite realizes that James’ body isn’t developing exactly as he intended, he will try to kill Daniel’s father and use his body as his own second body.

But he will fail, and that body will eventually become Daniel’s second body.

(It's just a theory)

Shingen and kitae have similar paths

In chapter 604

Jinyoung park mention he is barely inficting and damage and in the next panel he realized his path.
Which matches to the panels in last chapter that is 625 Shingen mentioned this. Most likely both have similar paths. Let me know your thoughts.

What if Gapryong Kim was inspired by Korea’s most famous “fist” — Kim Du-han?

I’ve been thinking about this for a while, and the more I compare Kim Gapryong from Lookism with the real-life Korean figure Kim Du-han, the more interesting the parallels become.

I’m NOT saying this is confirmed. I couldn’t find a statement from PTJ explicitly saying that Gapryong was based on Kim Du-han.

But the similarities are surprisingly specific.

🥊 1. Both are legendary fighters of their era

Kim Du-han became famous as a legendary street fighter and gang leader in Korea.

Gapryong is essentially the same archetype within Lookism: the legendary fighter of the Zero Generation and leader of the Fist Gang.

Both are remembered not simply because they were strong, but because their fists became part of their legend.

🇰🇷 2. The “fighter who protects his people” archetype

Kim Du-han became famous through stories portraying him as someone who protected Koreans and fought against Japanese gangs during the colonial period.

Gapryong is also portrayed as a leader who genuinely cares about his people and brings powerful fighters together under his banner.

His Fist Gang isn't presented as just another gang. Gapryong's leadership is built around loyalty, comradeship and protecting his own.

⚔️ 3. Korean vs Japanese conflict

This is probably the biggest parallel.

Kim Du-han's legend is heavily connected to conflicts with Japanese criminal groups.

And in Lookism, Gapryong's greatest historical conflict is against the Yamazaki Family.

So you get a very similar structure:

Kim Du-han:
🇰🇷 Korean gangs
🆚
🇯🇵 Japanese gangs

Gapryong:
🥊 Fist Gang
🆚
🐉 Yamazaki Family

Obviously, Lookism isn't a historical retelling, but the parallel is interesting.

🏛️ 4. Fighter → leader → politics

This one makes the theory even more interesting.

Kim Du-han eventually moved from the criminal world into politics and became a member of the National Assembly.

Gapryong also had ambitions of entering politics after his time with the Fist Gang.

So both follow a remarkably similar progression:

Street fighter → legendary leader → political influence

That's a pretty specific character archetype.

👊 5. The “Fist” isn't just symbolism

Kim Du-han's entire historical image is tied to being a legendary bare-knuckle fighter.

Gapryong, meanwhile, is literally remembered as one of the greatest “fists” of his generation.

PTJ could have simply made Gapryong another powerful old-generation fighter.

Instead, his identity is heavily connected to the idea of the Fist itself.

🧬 6. Their legacy continues after them

This might be the most important similarity.

Kim Du-han became a historical and cultural legend whose story continued long after his fighting days.

Gapryong's influence works the same way.

Even after his generation ended, his children, students and former comrades continued to shape the story.

Jake Kim and Kitae Kim aren't just random characters — they're part of Gapryong's legacy.

His story continues through the next generation.

So, is Gapryong literally Kim Du-han?

Probably not.

Their lives, personalities and circumstances are obviously very different.

But I think it's completely reasonable to theorize that Kim Du-han was one of the inspirations behind Gapryong's character archetype.

The parallels line up almost perfectly:

Kim Du-han
→ legendary street fighter
→ gang leader
→ protector of his people
→ conflicts with Japanese gangs
→ political ambitions
→ becomes a legend

Kim Gapryong
→ legendary fighter
→ Fist Gang leader
→ protector of his people
→ war against Yamazaki
→ political ambitions
→ becomes a legend

Maybe PTJ didn't copy Kim Du-han.

Maybe he took the Korean cultural archetype of the legendary “fist” and rebuilt it inside the Lookism universe.

And if that's true...

Gapryong Kim might be much more than just a fictional “legendary fighter.”

He could be PTJ's fictionalized version of one of Korea's most famous legendary fighters.

What do you guys think?
Coincidence, inspiration, or an intentional reference?

🧬 THEORY: WHAT IF DANIEL CREATED HIS OWN SECOND BODY?

What if we've been looking for the person who created Daniel's second body, when the answer could actually be Daniel himself — from the future?

This is only a theory, but several details in Lookism make this possibility interesting.

  1. The second body is almost TOO perfect for Daniel

When Daniel first gets his second body, it already has almost perfect physical characteristics.

But it's not just about appearance.

The body is almost perfectly suited for someone with Copy:

  • enormous physical potential;
  • the ability to use countless fighting techniques;
  • UI;
  • incredible adaptability;
  • nearly perfect physical stats.

Why is this body so perfectly suited to Daniel?

Maybe because it was created for him.

But by whom?

  1. OG Daniel is slowly becoming more like his second body

At the beginning of the story, the difference between the two bodies was massive.

But after training, OG Daniel gradually changes.

He becomes:

stronger → faster → more muscular → more experienced → visually closer to his second body.

This could simply be character development.

But there is another possibility:

the second body could represent Daniel's potential final form.

Something like:

«OG Daniel → development → EOS Daniel»

While the second body already possesses many of the characteristics OG Daniel is gradually reaching.

  1. The strangest clue — the vision during the fight

When OG Daniel confronts his second body, something unusual happens.

Daniel perceives another version/personality that can be interpreted as himself.

Why?

If the second body simply belongs to some unknown person, why would contact between the two bodies be connected to another version of Daniel?

But if the second body is somehow connected to Daniel's future self, this becomes much more interesting.

  1. 🕰️ What if this is a time loop?

Imagine the future.

Daniel eventually becomes EOS Daniel — his ultimate version.

He discovers the truth behind the two-body phenomenon and somehow gains the ability to create or send a body into the past.

He creates the body that young Daniel eventually receives.

Then:

EOS Daniel → creates the second body → young Daniel receives it → goes through his journey → becomes EOS Daniel.

A closed loop:

«Daniel receives his second body because of his future self, while his future self only becomes possible because he received the second body.»

Daniel would therefore be the ultimate cause of his own second body.

  1. 🧬 Then what about Jinyoung Park?

This is where the theory gets even more interesting.

Jinyoung is Daniel's biological uncle.

And Jinyoung also possesses Copy.

He is also connected to the mystery surrounding the two-body phenomenon.

So we have:

Park family → Jinyoung → Copy → Daniel → Copy

Maybe Copy and the two-body phenomenon are somehow connected to the Park family's genetics or history.

That could explain why Daniel is capable of interacting with this phenomenon.

  1. 👁️ Why does OG Daniel resemble Jinyoung?

There is another interesting detail.

OG Daniel visually resembles young Jinyoung.

That obviously makes sense because they are related.

But if PTJ intentionally emphasized the resemblance, it could have another purpose:

OG body = Daniel's genuine biological lineage through the Park family.

The second body could therefore be something completely different.

Not the body of an unknown relative.

But an artificially created form of Daniel himself.

  1. ❓ Then why does the second body resemble his father?

This is where things get strange.

If OG Daniel visually resembles Jinyoung, some readers perceive the second body as having more similarities to Daniel's father.

One possible interpretation is:

OG body → maternal line → Jinyoung

Second body → paternal line → Sangcheol

However, this is purely a visual theory and does NOT prove that the second body is related to Daniel's father.

  1. 🧪 What if Charles and Jinyoung didn't create Daniel's body?

Maybe they were studying an existing phenomenon.

Charles knows about the two-body phenomenon.

Jinyoung knows about it.

Crystal also has two bodies.

Therefore, the mechanism existed before Daniel.

But that doesn't necessarily mean someone else created Daniel's specific second body.

Daniel could still eventually become the person responsible for creating his own body.

Crystal would then prove that the mechanism exists, not that every second body has the same origin.

  1. 🔥 What does Gun calling Daniel his "masterpiece" mean?

Gun calls Daniel his masterpiece.

Normally, this means Daniel is Gun's greatest achievement as a student.

But under this theory, the word becomes almost symbolic.

Gun isn't creating Daniel's body.

He is developing the fighter who has the potential to reach an ideal form.

And Daniel's second body is already almost the perfect vessel for that potential.

  1. 💀 The craziest part

Now imagine EOS Daniel really can somehow influence the past.

Then:

EOS Daniel creates the second body.

Young Daniel receives it.

He trains, grows stronger and experiences the events of Lookism.

Eventually he becomes EOS Daniel.

Then EOS Daniel goes back and creates the second body.

EOS DANIEL ↓ creates the second body ↓ young Daniel ↓ receives the second body ↓ trains and develops ↓ becomes EOS DANIEL ↓ creates the second body ↺

A closed time loop.

There is no obvious starting point.

And that's exactly why Daniel himself could potentially be the creator of his second body.

  1. ⚠️ The biggest problem: Crystal

Crystal also has two bodies.

So we cannot simply say:

"Every second body is the future version of its owner."

That theory doesn't explain everything.

But the theory becomes much stronger if there is a general mechanism behind the creation/acquisition of second bodies, while different people interact with it in different ways.

Daniel could simply be using that mechanism in a unique way.

🧠 MY FINAL THEORY

I don't necessarily think the second body is literally "future Daniel."

A more interesting possibility is:

«Daniel's second body was created through an unknown mechanism that already exists in the world of Lookism, but future EOS Daniel somehow becomes the reason why this specific body exists.»

Then:

Jinyoung could explain the biological/Copy side.

Charles could explain the research and knowledge surrounding the two-body phenomenon.

Crystal proves that the phenomenon isn't unique to Daniel.

And EOS Daniel could explain why Daniel's specific second body is connected to Daniel himself.

So the question isn't simply:

«"Who created Daniel's second body?"»

It's:

«"What if the creator of Daniel's second body was Daniel himself?"»

If the EOS vision is actually a hint at a connection between present Daniel and his future self, it could be one of the biggest clues toward the true nature of the two-body phenomenon.

Lookism 2?

I recently discovered Lookism and absolutely binged the entire show in just two days It was incredibly entertaining, but that cliffhanger ending left me with so many unanswered questions
I’ve been looking everywhere for news about Season 2, but there is still absolutely no official confirmation or cancellation from Netflix or Studio Mir Since the anime came out back in 2022 and we are now in 2026,
For those who have been in this community longer What is the realistic expectation here? Is the anime completely dead or is there still a tiny bit of hope?
Also for those who transitioned to the Webtoon after the anime ended where exactly should I start reading to pick up right where the show left off

Ignore the wrong . , ? Am bad at it
