This is my first ever 2D walk cycle so expect many mistakes. I haven't added the Details for the Head yet (like eyes, hair, ... etc.). I would really appreciate Feedback on what I did good and what I could do better or add. And also how do I place the folds on the scarf better and more consistent? Because right now it looks cursed.

i’ve been looking through the Look Back movie keyframe book, and i’ve notice how in the gengas, most of the lines are non existence and instead use color lines— but i though that was only for genga and filling in shadows?
i use clip studio paint to animate, and many other animation companies use it too, so how do they use the fill tool!!?
this may be such a stupid question.. but during the watching of this movie multiple times and reading through the book, it really has me wondering!!
i would really appreciate an explanation and maybe some tips on how to achieve this technique through clip studio!! <3

I dont know if I would call myself a beguinner because I've been animating for 6 years but I'm also still not that good. I'm trying to draw people currently. (Specifically very specific cartoon characters but they have human anatomy sort of-) i use flip a clip because its me and my tablet against the world lol

Can someone view the below video and let me know what software/tool would be best to create such animations? I have no prior knowledge in drawing and animations, but would like to learn how to create such animations. Thanks.

Hi! I just finished this jump and slide exercise. How do the weight and momentum feel? Is there anything I could improve? Any feedback is welcome!
I also uploaded it to SyncSketch: https://syncsketch.com/sketch/nnpzf6r8wsgt/

Let me start by saying thanks to all who read this and can offer any help. I have recently accepted that this old dog might not be able to learn new tricks. I have a web series I'm trying to produce but the major roadblock has become the animation end of life. I thought I had someone on board to handle the animation but life has had other plans. I have looked to use many programs from Tahoma2d (based on the attractive price of zero dollars) up to atlabs which is probably on the more expensive end of life. I'm not opposed to investing money into the project but I guess I just need some guidance on where to go next. Anyone out there that is interested in offering some advice it would be appreciated.

If you're learning 2D animation, Blender has a completely free built-in vector tool called Grease Pencil. The new 5.3 update makes drawing much easier: you can now tweak strokes, cut shapes, and flip your canvas directly without complicated mode switching.

Hi everyone! I'm pretty new to Reddit, so I'm still figuring things out around here! I wanted to share an animation draft I've been working on. It's still a work in progress, and I'd really appreciate any suggestions, constructive criticism, or advice you guys might have. 🥹💗
This animatic is about friendship, memories, and the bittersweet feeling of growing up and eventually going our separate ways. I'm using “Ride Home” by Ben&Ben as the song because it reminds me of the kind of comfort and warmth you find in the people who become your home.
My initial goal was to finish this before graduation so I could show it to my friends afterward. I wanted it to be something they could look back on and realize just how many memories we've created together. Even if life takes us in different directions and we don't get to see each other as often as we used to, I want them to remember that, at one point in our lives, we had each other. We laughed together, made memories, and shared moments that became a part of who we are.
I guess I want this animation to say something I might not always know how to express in words: even if we eventually part ways, you were once my home, and a part of me will always carry the memories we made together.
Unfortunately, the animation is still unfinished, and I'm still learning a lot about the process. I have so many things I want to improve, and sometimes I struggle with bringing the ideas in my head to life. But I really want to finish this project because it means a lot to me, not just as an animation, but as something personal that I want to share with the people who inspired it.
I'd love to hear your honest thoughts! What do you think about the animation so far? Are there things I could improve in the movement, timing, transitions, storytelling, or overall atmosphere? Any advice for a beginner animator would also be greatly appreciated!
I'm just a small artist trying to improve my skills and slowly build a name for myself. Someday, I hope to create more meaningful animations and art that people can connect with, even in their own little ways. I'm still a long way from where I want to be, but I'm willing to learn and keep creating. Every bit of feedback and support means a lot to me. 🫶
🎨 You can also find me here:
If you'd like to follow my journey or see more of my work, you're more than welcome to! No pressure at all. I'm also hoping to meet other artists, learn from this community, and connect with people who appreciate animation and storytelling.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and check out my work. I'd really appreciate any thoughts you have. I hope this little project can eventually become what I've imagined it to be. 💗

So I want to start practicing animation, I actually draw on paper and I'm thinking of taking it to the next level by doing digital drawing. I'm looking for iPad type for drawing and also for animating.

Hello people,
I have a Microsoft Surface Pro 8 and would like to get into animation. I want to teach myself with tutorials etc. The problem I have is first of all I don’t know any animation programs, I would like a program that is intuitive, although it can be a bit complex the more you get into it, since I’m a fast learner. So a beginner program that can also be used for more advanced animations.
I tried illustrating here and there in various programs, however most of them have the problem that they can‘t tell apart the surface pen 2 from my finger, so when I try to move the picture around it draws a line even if I use two fingers sometimes. Also the pen I use can (in paint and onenote at least) use an eraser if I use the back of it, although I haven’t found an illustration program that can also use this feature. So it would be nice if the animation program you guys recommend has that feature (although it’s optional if the program itself is great)
A question for the surface users if there are any:
is it possible to use third party software to map the button at the end of the pen for example to redo and undo so I don’t have to press ctrl+z all the time because the keyboard annoys me and feels in the way when I try to draw.
Bonus Question: Are there any tutorials, preferably in the form of text like a website to help me with drawing, animation, proportions etc. I like text tutorials more because I don’t have to pause or skip through a video and it’s easier to have on the side on my pc or my phone.
Disclaimer: Please don’t tell me the surface is sh*t for drawing, I know it’s not the best. I also use it for college work where it’s really in its element and I got it for extremely cheap via ebay auction sniping. I’m a broke student so if the software is > ~20€ it doesn‘t really help and no I can‘t afford an ipad pro with pro pen for an arm and a leg. My bank account is basically always in the double digits.
Thank you in advance, and I apologize if anything I said seemed offensive and rude, I sometimes can’t tell if my sentence structure can come off as such. (Neurodivergency😡) Also english isn‘t my first language and
Side Note: if anyone has some niche physics info I’d be open to hearing it if you want to tell me along with the animation software stuff
