Saul Bass' unused concepts for The Shining poster. Kubrick's handwritten notes include "looks like science fiction film" and "I would like to suggest it is a film of terror (and the supernatural)."

After a test screening of Dr Strangelove on 22 November 1963 – the day of John F. Kennedy’s assassination – the infamous 'pie fight' scene was subsequently taken out, and Kubrick having decided “it was too farcical and not consistent with the satiric tone of the rest of the film.”

Which current director is closest to kubricks style?

I know there’s only one Kubrick, but who is closest?

Off the top of my head Yorgos Lanthimos. Kubrick has that style of thriller with a hint of dark comedy. Yorgos isn’t exactly like that but the cinema and set designs remind me of Kubrick.

"The lasting and ultimately most important reputation of a film is not based on reviews, but on what, if anything, people say about it over the years and on how much affection for it they have." - Stanley Kubrick

Filming the iconic 'blue room' scenes of 2001: A Space Odyssey, which were lit entirely through the floor!
