Any hardtail related questions, hardtail chat, hardtail tech, or anything else hardtail that that you want to chat about, that doesn’t quite warrant a new thread? This is the thread for you...

Do full-suspension riders even know the physical toll of a long, chattery descent on a hardtail? My legs were burning going DOWN

This bike has done, double black downhill & enduro races and clocked over 25,000km over 5 years of shuttling me to work. I have crashed a million times and she is still sweet as fuck.
My downhill bike gets maybe 5% of the glory, where this does everything else.
:)

Was about to head out for a night ride and thought she looked so good in the door I had to grab a shot

Hey guys,
I’m looking at getting myself a new bike and have settled on a couple of options.
Merida Big trail 500
And
Cannondale Habit HT1
Both are around the same price point and have very similar part lists and geometry.
I’m in Australia and the stock lists are low or non existent for a lot of bikes.
I’d love to hear your thoughts or if you have one of said bikes a bit about why you chose it and if you would still choose it again.
Cheers

Why do what's conventional. This bike rips.

The heat as finally subsided in the desert and we can get back to our first love....mountain biking! Usually the summer is just too hot and there's no shade on the trails so we're stuck on riding gravel bikes on canals early in the morning. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy that but there's just something about being on this particular bike on trails that just makes me smile.
I love this bike!

Just past 1000 miles this year and the pup’s been with me on probably ~300 of them! The Anomaly was built in March and I love it, have about as many miles on it as my full sus. XT/Deore drivetrain, Hunt Trailwide V2s, Ground Controls, and a Marzzochi Bomber Z2 (Though I have my eyes on the MRP Ribbon SL)

Finally completed my build (for now)! Got the bike almost two months ago, been riding it nonstop for 2.640km already and I‘m still in love.
Orbea Alma M30 (2026) with a few tweaks:
- Orbea MP30Team Carbon wheels (30mm internal with 350 hubs, 54T ratchet)
- Vittoria Barzo / Mezcal 2.4“ XC race
- Progress Carbon bars (740mm width)
- Ergon GA2 grips and SM comp saddle
- XT brakes, including 180mm rotors
- Fox transfer SL Elite 150mm dropper
- 165mm SLX cranks with 32T chainring
- 12 speed XT mechanical (apart from the stock SLX cassette - but as soon as that wears out…)

Fall is in full season here in Sweden now in mid October. Sunset is earlier and it's quite a lot wetter and colder out. So I have installed the fenders on the hard tail and got the lights out for the first proper night ride of the season. Night time basically doesn't exist here in summer so it's a nice change of pace before it's icy and brutally cold at night in winter. Pretty happy with my light setup of an Outbound light on my handlebar, a battery bank supported headlamp from Lumonite, and a Lezyne tail light.
Fortunately not too muddy today, but the rocks and roots were definitely moist enough to be a tad sketchy! Time to start running lower tire pressure too. And eventually the studded tires, pogies, and warmer clothes will get added to the rotation.

Spent the last year and a bit on a sag-wagon after ~6 years on a hardtail. Never got the hang of it lol. Also bike was just big. Realized I like smaller bikes. Anyway, totally stock Chromag build.
So far it's the best bike I've ever ridden. I don't think my fits were ever quite right and man does it feel solid and smooth.
Also, the bike seems to be ferromagnetic or highly conductive or something? I've ridden steel bikes below some power lines before and nada, rode this bike under the same ones and there was like low vibration throughout the whole bike. Rubbing my finger on it almost felt rough....
anyway, stoked to be back :)

Why do a lot of XC MTBs keep a significant part of the dropper post above the seat tube ? Doesn't it limit the potential "drop area" ? Wouldn't it be better to get a longer travel dropper post so that it can be fully inserted in the seat tube and when you drop it, you get the maximum drop area ?

Tucked away in Danbury, North Carolina is Hanging Rock State Park. Home of the Moores Spring Trails. Where you’ll find everything from sketchy double black downhills, to rock gardens, to flow to climbs. If you’re ever in the area, hit me up, and hit up trailforks. Well worth the visit.

Finished up this build and man is it an amazing bike!!! I typically pedal a Pivot Firebird and love the big bike but man….the Tall Tale as a 150mm trail bike is amazing. Best riding hardtail that I’ve ever ridden and I’ve had a lot of hardtails. Huge shout out to Adam and Sklar for making amazing bikes!
