Book clubs
Hey! I'm looking for a bookclub, as a woman in my late 20's. Topics don't necessarily matter but the company does. I moved to Guelph about 3 years ago and my social life is pretty dead since I finished up grad school. I want to meet people that are open to discussing various topics, especially those that can help our community. If they aren't any I'm also open to starting one.

I'd be down for something, is this online or in-person? Anything non-fiction is my jamm

If I were to host it I'd want both to be an option. A cheeseboard for those who want to come out and convenience for those who want to stay in. And I agree, I like to be rooted in reality and sometimes history holds keys to explaining the things happening right now. Sometimes it's too much and I take a little fiction break though. Lol

Haha, that's totally fair. It's nice to have a balance. How to make an apple pie from scratch was a great read. Nearly through that one myself

Heya. I'm a pretty avid reader, but I can't really commit to a book club. If you're at all interested in hanging out with some pretty cool women on Friday nights, getting a bit of exercise in, etc., my ball hockey team is always looking for like-minded folks to join us. No experience is necessary.

There’s a Facebook group called Books & Beer Guelph. I’ve gone to a meeting before and everyone was nice

There is one at Planet Bean on Wyndham the first Monday or Tuesday of each month. I forget but it says on their instagram. I think they read fiction, like drama, mystery, historical fiction, and are probably open to suggestions.

I'll check their page out. I barely visited them once for coffee. Thanks for the suggestion!

It's a really nice group and the host puts a lot of thought and consideration into the books selected. Another good way to connect with them is through the meetup app. Through that, you can add your name to email mailing list.

My girlfriend recently joined “the gloss” last month because of the same situation. We left the city for school and came back to everyone moving away and covid. She enjoyed her first meeting and is going to another one soon. They meet once a month and have a group text going in WhatsApp. She said there’s a website for it as well

Just curious, did you decide to join an existing club or start a new one? I am also a woman in my late 20’s with a nonexistent social life and I want to join a book club!

I decided to try the one at planet bean first. The link is in a comment. You have 2 weeks to read and join the next meeting if you like.

Hello! I'm a software developer looking to develop some sort of website to help users discover, manage and facilitate their book clubs. If you were to use a website like this, what features would you be looking for?

Hey I run a book club on Discord based in Orangeville. We meet once a monthish on DIscord. It's called "Reading Between the Wines". It's casual. Our theme is usually smut but we like to cleanse the palate with some feminist/non-fiction/historical books.

I am too introverted to attend something in person (also a guy, so maybe I am not the target audience) but I wish you luck! Nothing like a good book ☺️

Nah. I'd want to be in an inclusive space. Some others suggested the public library for clubs

I think the Guelph Public Library has a couple book clubs going.
