On Tuesday, my account was finally unfrozen after they requested that I answer some questions about my account. Took about a week for them to actually answer any of my emails, so I was pretty stoked to actually get a response.

The moment I went to withdraw my cash to my bank account, I was greeted with a “unable to
process due to security reasons” message, which then led to my account being put on hold once again. 5 days later, still no response, and I have contacted the NYS DFS about the issue.

Has anyone else dealt with this? Incredibly frustrated with how awful the response time is

Hi, I only recently started using Gemini fully verified my account and withdrawal method says it is working. I was able to withdraw two days ago, but now whenever I try to withdraw any money a message pops up saying “for your security we couldn’t complete this transaction, please contact them for assistance.” Contacting them has gotten no response for me yet in over a week so I was wondering if anyone could help explaining this message or how to get help. I have already successfully completed the mobile app identity verification and live 3D selfie check. I also submitted a formal complaint form and generated Ticket 6480744, but I haven't received an official agent reply yet. How long does the compliance manager usually take to manually lift this wire hold after the selfie check is approved? Thank you!

I’m a new customer who traded $200 to get the 50% trade match and it has been a few days after and I’ve sent a customer supprt letter and still have not received my trade match

I had such a hard time getting help from Gemini through their recommended channels (having to word this a bit odd because many of the words I need to use are not allowed in this sub)

For over a week no one responded to my issue and it was very frustrating not being able to speak to anyone.

I filed a complaint with the New York Department of Financial Services stating my issue and the ID # of my issue and let them know that, operating under the BitLicense in NYC requires for Gemini to respond to clients in a timely manner and that they are failing that requirement.

The NYC DFS then reach out to Gemini on my behalf and are included on the next communication from Gemini to me directly.

This got my issue resolved within 3 days of submitting the complaint.

I think it’s very disappointing that Geminis help only comes when forced by regulators, but that seems to be ok with them.

Individuals, businesses and countries have been exchanging value long before fiat money or crypto existed.

The medium changes. The core does not: value exchange and competitive advantage.

A simple business example.

A company develops expertise in a particular field. Over time, it identifies the right partners, builds relationships and creates a network that gives it an edge over competitors.

As the saying goes, “Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.”

Whether value is exchanged through commodities, fiat money or crypto, businesses will rarely want every relationship, transaction pattern and strategic connection exposed publicly.

Not necessarily because they are avoiding tax, hiding money or doing something illegal.

Simply because that is not how competition works.

For many businesses, the product or service is only part of their value. Their network, suppliers, partners, clients, counterparties and the relationships between them, can itself be a major competitive advantage.

This is why automatically associating privacy coins with large-scale exploitation misses the broader issue.

Regulation\\,\\ whether through AML, KYC or newer regulatory frameworks, should certainly bring discipline and accountability. Privacy and regulation do not have to be opposites.

Look back to Bitcoin in 2009.

Bitcoin offered pseudonymity rather than complete anonymity. But as blockchain analytics, AI and external datasets become increasingly sophisticated, transaction activity can potentially be connected with information from exchange KYC records, merchant records, publicly posted donation addresses, address reuse, transaction patterns and wallet-clustering techniques.

And the party interested in discovering those connections may not always be a regulator.

It could just as easily be a competitor trying to understand another company's valuable network.

This is not an anti/pro Bitcoin, ZEC, Monero, etc or regulation argument. Nor is it about predicting which coin will have what price in the future.

There is a much bigger fish to fry.

Some assets may continue primarily as mechanisms for transferring value. Others may become stores of value. Others may enable entirely new economic activity.

The more important question is:

Does the asset or network enable the creation, protection or exchange of real value?

That brings me back to something I wrote earlier:

“Anything that is limited and has value will be wanted by both the good and the bad. It becomes a game of who controls how much of it — and, even more importantly, who is considered good or bad at any given point in time.”
