Father of Mine is just so sad. Obviously Everclear isnt a happy band and I feel like it’s pretty widley known Art’s dad left and obviously Father of Mine is a terribly sad song but I mean oh my gosh I can’t listen to it. I got into everclear little over a year ago and SMFTA is my favourite album probably ever I listen to it at least once a week front to back EXCEPT for Father of Mine. I’ve listened to it fully probably four times in total and I’ve ugly sobbed every single time. I think part of it is because of MY dad. We have a good relationship and I love him so much so I can’t imagine how awful it would be if he just left me, but my dad also had a relationship similar to Art and his father. That song makes me think of my dad when he was a child and I feel so sad for him. Anyway Art is an incredible song writer and I don’t think I‘ve ever cried more to music

Music has always carried meaning for me. Even when life throws curveballs, artists have a way of capturing what the heart feels in a way that words alone can’t. I grew up boxed into the music of my decade, not really allowed to explore the raw emotion of other genres, and in that limitation I missed finding my own voice. Later, I realized how many powerful poets in music I had overlooked.

One song that found me at the right time was Everclear’s Fire Maple Song. It became my “anger” song — not in a destructive way, but in a way that released emotion and made space for healing. The lyrics spoke to me with honesty and intensity. But when I watched the music video, I felt a disconnect. What I heard in the song didn’t seem to match what I saw on the screen.

My interpretation of the song has always been about someone reconnecting with their younger self — a hand on the shoulder, a quiet guidance through pain. The video, though, seemed to lean toward a narrative of father-loss and a strained nuclear family. The black‑and‑white table scenes felt staged, and the band’s expressions — the black eyes, the eye‑rolling, the way no one looked directly at the camera — communicated something different to me. It felt like there was pain in making that video, or at least a misrepresentation of what the song truly meant.

Maybe I misunderstood the intent. Maybe the video did reflect their vision. If so, my apologies to the artists — that’s the beauty of music: we each connect to it in our own way. But for me, the emotional truth of Fire Maple Song lives in the words, not the visuals. The song deserved more recognition than it received, and it remains one of those rare pieces that helped me find a part of myself I didn’t know I’d lost.

Long shot here, but I’m looking for any personal photos, scans, or home videos from the Matchbox Twenty / Everclear / Lifehouse "Mad Season" tour stop at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA on March 11, 2001.

During Everclear's set, Art brought a bunch of fans up on stage to sing "Rock Star" with them—and I was one of those fans!

I know venues were super strict about cameras back then, but if anyone happens to have physical photos they’ve scanned, a disposable camera roll from that night, or knows someone who does, I would love to see them. It would mean the world to find a visual memory of that moment. Thank you!

I usually play r&b and rap but I genuinely fell in love with this song when I first heard it.

I'd never seen an official video for "Fire Maple Song" before, and I wanted to share it here just in case others didn't know 😊 I apologize if this is common knowledge.

Are they worth it? At just shy of $300 each that’s alot of money to spend.

My wife and I like their music and were expecting a different flow, the band music was very good but louder than his voice I couldn't hear him singing most of the time & then he got the crowd singing. The staff & crowd were nice people to be around, the first opening band was not ready for prime, 2nd band Rahway brought more crowd energy, Everclear started and we went to hear him sing not the crowd and did not expect that, we had the same experience at a Pretenders concert, the bands voice isn't strong enough anymore to last the show so we left a little early, they did their best, we still had fun, ill keep them in my spotify library, tickets are cheap enough for a fun night out with friends or family so I encourage it, that was my shared experience about last night.

I've been looking for old pictures that aren't digital at this point for my husband's father's day gift- I came across these because it was about 2005 and I only had an emergency flip phone because I was on chemo but had email so my bff and I communicated that way and it was great. I can't replicate or find these pics. They might be lost on a cd somewhere. The important thing is that Art was absolutely amazing to meet, he came to see me in the hospital as a teenager, I legit brought my posters with me I got from eBay because I was so into their music and I needed to stay for 30+ days at a time so I felt like I might as well fill my room with Art plus art/drawings/whatever. I made those rooms mine because I was young and had to live in them so long and they also let you. I always worried he thought I just put that poster up cause they were in town but I had no idea. I asked my doctor if I could leave to go to their concert when I found out, I promised I would wear a mask. Long ass time ago, but I will always be thankful he showed up, and I got to meet him. He was so sweet to the kids that made their way to my room because they heard the music. I couldn't make this up. I wouldn't sell a damn thing he autographed, I didn't even care about that part. It was about meeting someone that helped my life so much and made such amazing music. And he gave and put so much care and work into his music and lyrics. And then being an actual nice human being. I will always be so thankful and respect him for that.

After we met I relapsed months later and needed a bone marrow transplant and went through hell all over again but worse. But I'll be damned if meeting him wasn't a highlight of my life.

They just announced this at the Southaven show today, they played an unreleased song from their new album but it had no lyrics.

A phenomenal solo cover of Neil Young's "Harvest." Back in the Napster days, I had, if I remember correctly, this very recording downloaded. There aren't many recordings of this on YouTube, and this video only has about 60 views. If ya haven't heard it, I hope you like it. It's an incredible cover...and again, the original doesn't appeal to me. Art fixed it 😂
