Assignment Discussion September Assignment Discussion - Entropy by AStateOfInelegance

What did everyone think?

  • When did you first believe Hermione and Draco actually liked each other, not just intellectually enjoyed fighting with each other? Was there a specific scene that changed it for you?
  • Early on, Draco seems to understand something Hermione has been avoiding: that she has built her life around duty rather than what she actually wants. Why is Draco, of all people, able to see this before Ron, Harry, or even Hermione herself?
  • Their relationship develops through arguments, research, travel, and solving problems together long before it becomes romantic. What do you think actually made them fall in love?
  • After their first kiss, both of them immediately agree they do not need to talk about it. Was that hilarious self-denial, genuine fear, or actually the right move for them at that point?
  • Did Hermione realize she loved Draco before she realized she didn’t want him to leave? Or was his move to Paris what finally forced her to understand what she felt?
  • Draco repeatedly gives Hermione permission to make mistakes and trust herself, while Hermione eventually tells Draco that love is something he doesn't have to earn. Which of those was the more important thing for either character to hear?
  • Draco’s reaction afterward—particularly his struggle with the idea that someone can love him without an accounting of what he has earned—is one of the emotional climaxes of the story. Did his eventual acceptance feel earned after everything that came before it?
  • Was Hermione and Ron's breakup inevitable before Draco ever entered the picture?
  • Hermione genuinely loves Ron, but she has also structured her life around promises she made to him. Was Hermione sacrificing for the relationship, or using sacrifice as a way to avoid deciding what she actually wanted?
  • One of the most revealing moments comes when Hermione realizes during the expedition that she hasn't thought about Ron for days. Was that the true end of their relationship, even before they officially broke up?
  • Did the story treat Ron fairly? He isn't turned into a villain to make Dramione possible. Did that make the breakup more convincing—or harder?
  • What did you think of Aristide and Francis's story? Did Aristide's centuries-long devotion feel romantic, tragic, frightening—or some combination of all three?

  • When did you first realize Draco and Hermione were genuinely falling in love?

  • Was Hermione and Ron's relationship already doomed before Draco reappeared?

  • Who changed the other's life more: Hermione or Draco?

  • Did the story convince you that Draco had genuinely changed?

  • Was Aristide walking through the Veil with Francis a happy ending?

  • What was the best part of the entire quest storyline?

  • Did Hermione have the right to interfere with Draco's career through "Project Meddling"?

  • Why was Draco so determined to leave even once he had built a life in Britain?

  • Did Hermione's Chapter 72 confession feel like the correct culmination of her arc?

  • What single scene best represents what Entropy is actually about?

Happy to hear everyone's thoughts,

Ana

Side Discussion The faultline‼️‼️

Guys, please help me. I love this fic and I genuinely don't know how to get over it. I have tried a billion other fics, but nothing comes close to this gorgeous, gorgeous story.

I don't know what to do. I panic when I see there have been no new updates on it (imagining the worst-case scenario, obviously). Someone tell me how to get over it, because I have tried other fics, books, and shows, and NOTHING EVER COMPARES!

Sorry if this is pathetic, but I am a sloppy mess over this fic.

Pls tell me what to do

Side Discussion Question about "In Between"

Hey, everyone!

People in the fandom keep recommending I read "In Between" by aerynwrites, saying it's one of the best rewrites out there, and I don't doubt it for a second!

However, when it comes to romantic plots specifically, I usually get bored when the couple gets together too early on and then there's no conflict/break up (and this says nothing about the writing, it's totally a me thing).

I've always had the impression that this is the case with In Between (the getting together early on and the actual conflict revolving around the war/hiding their relationship), but I've decided to come ask for your opinions, since I keep bumping into recs for this one and it apparently has a lot of tropes that I tend to love.

Has anyone read it? What are your thoughts?

Thanks in advance :)

Side Discussion Manacled Playlist

Hi I was wondering if anyone has the original manacled playlist by senlinyu. I have most of the songs downloaded but I’m not sure on some of them. Maybe if someone had it downloaded before it was removed or if they knew what songs were on the playlist that would be great. I really loved the playlist and hope someone can help me out. Please and thank you

Side Discussion Me 🤝 rereading Lionheart AGAIN

Hello all,

Here to report that I’ve re-read Lionheart. Again. :)))))

I don’t really know where this rant will go. It’s been far too long since anyone discussed Lionheart in this thread, and I’ve been holding some thoughts and need to share them with people who get it.

I’ve recently moved to a new country to start a new job, I barely know anyone here, and I wanted to read something that would warm my heart, IYKWIM. Lionheart is one of those two fics (the other being Détraquée) that I could reread endlessly and still come away with new feelings and emotions and insights, noticing things I missed on previous reads. Or I can just pick a random chapter and reread it when I’m feeling nostalgic, or when I simply need something that grounds me and makes me feel good when I’m not.

Lionheart Draco remains, to me, the best portrayal of Draco I’ve ever read. I honestly cannot wait to keep growing with him and see who he becomes as an adult. I remember being a bit reticent to start this fic when I first heard about it, because I worried that the trope it’s based on could result in a Draco who felt too OOC. How wrong I was. And what a talented writer GT is.

And one of best thing about this fic is the multidimensionality of every single secondary character. Every one of them feels like a fully multilayered individual, with their own subplot, their own motivations, and their own inner world. Hermione. Harry. Theo. Daphne. Ron (best Ron ever, do we all agree?????). Neville. Pansy. Narcissa. Sirius. Honestly, JKR could NEVER. NEVERRRRRR!!!!

Another thing that makes Lionheart so brilliant is how the characters evolve, each at their own pace. Some mature faster than others (hello, Theodore), while others take a much longer route, and that makes them feel all the more credible and real. And then there’s the evolution of the story itself. Going from the whimsical, almost lighthearted atmosphere of the first two books into increasingly darker and more complex themes. I love that the characters are growing up alongside the story, and that the world around them changes as they do. I also love how teenagehood is portrayed. And L-O-V-E how the relationship between Hermione and Draco evolves. They never once say 'I love you' directly to each other in 800k words, and yet I have never doubted, even for a millisecond, even before they kissed for the first time, that they love each other immensely.

Want to hear your thoughts too: what is it about Lionheart that makes this story so special to you? What keeps bringing you back to it?

As always, I want to conclude by saying that I hope with all my heart that GT is doing well. GT, if you read this, we’re waiting for you with open arms!!!!!! ❤️

Next Assignment Poll October Poll

Alright everyone, let’s choose our next read.

The Golden Snitch and A Silver Lining by HealthyishObsession

Malfoy, why are you here?” Granger demanded.

“Flying. Obviously. Try to keep up.” Draco smirked. “I thought you were supposed to be smart.”

“I’m glad to see the system works,” she said condescendingly. “You seem completely reformed.”

The Golden Snitch and a Silver Lining is a fun, banter-filled enemies-to-lovers story featuring Healer Hermione Granger and Quidditch Team Owner Draco Malfoy. It has the heart and found family vibe of Ted Lasso mixed with the whimsical charm of the Wizarding World, full of broom thighs and brooding glances.

In the Interest of Magical Continuity by GenevieveLeddington

Seven years after the war, a single night with Draco Malfoy upends Hermione Granger’s life. When her unplanned pregnancy is classified as protected under the Ministry’s new population laws, her choice is stripped away. What begins as forced proximity becomes shared grief, quiet defiance and an uneasy alliance against a system that values lineage over consent.

Anything by TheDae

"I don't want your pity, Granger," he seethes. "I'm still in your debt. I haven't made amends yet."

"Oh, so you're planning to?" she asks more cheekily than she is feeling.

Malfoy's eyes flash as if she had challenged him to a duel.

"Is there something you need? Just say the word and I'll give it to you. Or do you prefer actions? I'm willing to do fucking anything..."

Hermione's heart is beating indecently fast. She masks her fascination with a sceptically raised eyebrow.

"Anything," she echoes.

"Anything," he confirms.

"All right, then. For starters, I'd like you to stop crowding me against this bookshelf."

Draco Malfoy’s Ledger of Perceived Slights by MagicOrMayhem

Draco Malfoy is back at Hogwarts for eighth year.

Unfortunately for him, so is Hermione Granger.

So, during potion’s class—as Hermione flies through Advanced N.E.W.T-level Potions work—Draco makes lists, reminding himself of all the reasons he hates her…

And maybe a few reasons he doesn’t.

Not With A Bang... by megalle

Draco Malfoy has just 9 months left on a 7 year house arrest sentence when the Ministry announces a new Marriage and Repopulation Act. Draco assumes it will not affect him as he is still under house arrest. He assumes wrongly.

No matter, the Ministry, in their infinite wisdom, has paired him with one Hermione Granger. The witch has never met an injustice she hasn't fought against and so Draco assumes she'll fight this one to the death before tying herself to him. Again, he assumes wrongly.

So now he has a wife who more resembles a ghost haunting his manor than the girl he once knew, a meddling elf, a rapidly approaching release date and no idea what life outside the Manor walls looks like or for the first time in his life, someone trying to tell him what to do with it.

Side Discussion BATMOBIL has me shook Spoiler

Hey gang. I am neither a regular reader of fanfiction nor a particular enjoyer of dramione, but I recently stumbled across Draco Malfoy and the Mortifying Ordeal of Being in Love after following One of Those Internet Rabbit Holes you sometimes go down and jesus fucking christ almighty on a bike. The things that I have felt while reading this stupid fucking story are truly unreasonable. I just finished Chapter 30, where a certain something happens, and it's just so absurdly mystical and erotic and insane and I was smiling like a fucking idiot after reading it. May a love like this ruin me someday or something.

That's it I guess. There is no point to this post, other than to blast an echo of these feelings into one of the few corners of the internet that might understand them. Good fucking grief. This story is a goddamn inspiration for just how magical the written word can be.

(And I have absolutely not at all enjoyed reading about Draco not being interested in Hermione's bum, not at all).

Side Discussion Just finished manacled and feeling so hangover

I am very very late to the fandom. I’m not even a Harry Potter fan but I was just looking for some fanfics to read to kill time and thought of draco x hermione pair all of a sudden wondering how it would be like. I swear to god I didn’t know there were a LOT of fanfics about Dramione before I saw all those fanfics on ao3. And then, I spiraled on reddit of’course and saw ‘Manacled’ was really popular so I got my hands on it to see what the fuss was all about. Normally, I didn’t like reading long books with long flashbacks and thought this would be a flop. But hell, I was wrong. It was so beautiful I drank the entire book. It was so tragic and heartbreaking that it’s now 12 am and I couldn’t sleep. I keep replaying the scenes again and again. The ending did not help either even though it is HEA. I know it’s as good as realistically they can be together but being on a secluded island JUST the two of them is kind of heartbreaking. I also wanted a bit more “fluff” in the end like them joking with one another or finding some new friends, having a new community postwar. But it was very heavy till the end.😭 So yeah this is me asking how to overcome this hangover. How do I come back to reality? Should I read more lighter Dramione to overcome this? I don’t know please just talk to me so that I am less alone after reading this heartbreaking book. I know there are a lot of similar posts about this but it’s just that I wanted to create my own post so I can see the responses of people in the present time that can help me relate better instead of reading discussion posts like years ago.

Side Discussion Question regarding reading order for Wait and Hope series

I read Wait and Hope by mightbewriting ages ago, probably over a year ago, and LOVED it. I always meant to get around to reading the prequel (?) Beginning and End but am only getting around to it now.

My question is whether I would need to reread Wait and Hope before starting Beginning and End. My memory is fuzzy on a lot of the details of the story, I know the big beats but probably won’t be able to make a lot of the connections that exist between the two stories at this point.

Please send thoughts!!

Side Discussion The Key of Reason by monstersofmen

Just finished this LOVELY fic a while ago after a loooong dramione hiatus. Oh man, where do I begin? The writing is ✨incandescent✨ I am a huge sucker for fics where Mind Healers play a significant role (blessdtoaster spoiled me so w her unparalleled Healer Lethe in AHRTH).
This was such a warm, lovely, moving fic. Draco Malfoy (who is good pals w Harry, and also his Auror partner) had an Incident at work which caused a neurotic break, and is forced to be on desk duty and have mandated Mind Healing sessions until he's cleared for regular Auror work. Our man realises the importance of routines and patterns and steadfastly sticks to them for the sake of his well being. Hermione is going through a bunch of her own stuff. Man, this friend group is just so WONDERFULLY written, and those non-Draco-POV chapters really are a filament of gold. The author covered every other character, and each of their voices was so vivid, different and I absolutely adored this fic and inhaled it in several large gulps. Exploring and confronting trauma, parent-child relationships, unhealthy (and healthy) coping mechanisms, god it felt just so wonderful. LOVED the dialogue and the humour as well.
I'm now a huge huge fan of this author and will read anything she writes! The OCs are also lovely :)
A gentle, healing, warm hug of a fic with several standout lines and ever so many laugh out loud moments. Can't recommend it enough <3

Alright everyone it’s been decided. We’ll be reading Entropy by AStateOfInelegance for this month.

In the six years since the war, Hermione Granger has organized her life around logic and duty. Draco Malfoy has built his around secrecy and spite.

When a research project forces them into collaboration, the result is predictably volatile—equal parts razor-sharp debate and mocking insults. What begins with magical linguistics and impossible creatures quickly devolves into something traumatizing—the creeping horror that the most aggravating person you know might also be the most interesting.

She’s insufferable. He’s impossible. Neither of them is winning. Both of them are furious.

Obviously, this is a love story.

OR

Together, Hermione Granger and Draco Malfoy formed a high-energy metastable configuration—improbable, volatile, catalytic

Hello everyone, I hope you all enjoyed the summer.

No matter, the Ministry, in their infinite wisdom, has paired him with one Hermione Granger. The witch has never met an injustice she hasn't fought against and so Draco assumes she'll fight this one to the death before tying herself to him. Again, he assumes wrongly.

The Greenhouse by Lucrezia_Fox

After an exhausting stint at the Ministry and an awkward breakup with Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger impulsively quits her job and moves into a tiny flat above Diagon Alley’s new arts district. A late-night chat with Luna Lovegood lands her a job at The Greenhouse, Luna and Neville’s trendy coffee shop, where she proves to be a very mediocre barista. Their most difficult customer, Draco Malfoy, is quick to complain about every badly foamed latte and insists she should be fired. Hermione is stubborn, Malfoy is infuriating, and neither of them can seem to stay away.

“Here we go.” He tossed the first folder aside in favour of flipping open the next. “A woman filed a report after her parents returned from a trip to…Willowsea? Wherever the fuck that is. Apparently they…oh.”

Granger leapt forward, reaching for the folder. “Let me see.”

“No, I’m reading it.” He turned away from her. “It says here that they’ve lost their magic.”

“What?”

In the small coastal town of Willowsea, strange happenings occur. Magic vanishes, memories fade, and an odd young couple have an unfortunate habit of asking too many questions.

Side Discussion These Ties That Bind - Dramione Spoiler Spoiler

**No plot spoilers please — but I need a tiny Dramione spoiler for These Ties That Bind** 😭
I’m currently at the beginning of Chapter 52 and I’m really enjoying the fic overall, but I have to admit that it feels *very* slow at times.
I’m mainly reading for Draco and Hermione, and their history, chemistry, tension, and whole dynamic have me completely hooked — but the constant back and forth is slowly killing me 😭 I know it’s a slow burn and, considering everything that’s happened, it makes sense that things between them aren’t exactly moving quickly. But at this point I just need to know that I’m not waiting forever.
So, **without spoiling any actual plot points**, can someone give me a tiny spoiler about the Draco/Hermione progression? Like… roughly when can I expect things between them to start moving forward a little more?

Side Discussion An appreciation for Detraquee by Hystaracal

Honestly I’m at a loss for words to describe how amazing this piece of literature was!

I was at first scared of the word count, but it was honestly so so so so worth it.

I loved how it was a romance sub-plot with a coming of age main plot. It felt so natural, so realistic, so smooth. Honestly i can’t imagine dramione falling in love in any other way than slowly.

I loved Hermione’s friendship with Theo just as much as I loved the dramione aspect of it, honestly it was one of the best parts of the book.

Just everything about it made absolute sense, it made ME feel giddy and excited every time Draco and Hermione had an interaction. And the Way their relationship progressed had me squealinggggg.

Their development and build up was DELICIOUS.

Edit: I also wanted to add that the book did an amazing job of showing and not just telling. I think because of this some people didn’t grasp the lines in between and concluded that Draco didn’t have feelings for Hermione. However it was very clear and apparent that he loved her.

Also I might have a thing for blondes now????

Side Discussion On Lionheart, heartbroken and in disbelief Spoiler

Lionheart by Greenteacup has broken the shackles of fan fiction because, although unfinished, it has presented itself as an entity that is able to stand alone to any Harry Potter book.

I’ve never seen a characterization of Draco that has come close to this esteemed author’s work. She has completed humanized him. Never before have so many characters been so tangible to me. Never before, since Zuko from ATLA, have I seen such great redemption arch. We must all say thank you to this distinguished author for displaying how a human CAN change, CAN differentiate themselves from their upbringing, and MUST build a strong moral compass.

(“That the rot of ages did not descend inexorably from one generation to another. That he could be himself, whole, and free of it. That he was not, in fact, a contradiction in terms.”)

His characterization is only the tip of the iceberg. I’ve never highlighted a book as much as I have hers. 987 times to be exact. The writing was unique, catchy, and INCREDIBLY funny. I actually let out too many laughs too count when I was reading this.

It breaks my heart that she left, is she ever coming back? Do we know anything about her disappearance???

DON’T get me started on Dramione itself.

Guys on a very sirius note nobody understands how important to me this book is because I love romance, but I have such such such a hard time believing in love, and 99% of the time I scoff at any attempt of writing love. And I look down at proclamations of love always. I rarely read anything, and conclude that the main couple love each other deeply. But Draco “I’m selfish, and you’re essential” and Hermione “I cared what you thought of me more than anyone alive” come very close to love.

Please come back greenteacup.
