⚔️ Encounter Map The Wizard's Tower maps and how I used them!
I made this Wizard's Tower a long while ago. I used it as a side quest adventure for my party.
This was made using Inkarnate 1.0. I made the first map, and then resized the map to focus on the tower. I then cloned it after making the floors to keep the same assets and size. Made it easier to make the separate maps.
As you go "up" on the floors, the ground gets more blurry and obscured. I think this was a nice little touch to add. Gives it depth!
The tower and the entrance are just that--a tower and entrance. You can add what you want to those rooms depending on the story you are telling--but it's largely up to you! You can see my party use these maps here.
_______
The second level has a relatively simple puzzle. Hints are on the wall to help players figure out what to do. On the wall are the words, “After the setting sun I ride, with iron o're me hide, to find your way, move like I today.”
My Players figured it out a little to quickly; I gave them an extra hint found in a scroll that said “Not of the foot or the cloth, a castle wall I'm not, nor king or queen, but I jump to save all." This one made the puzzle a little to easy. Here is my party figuring out the chess board puzzle.
______
The Third level has 4 brazers. As players enter the room, they hear a hissing noise. 4 elemental snakes comes out of the brazers.
They will fight the snakes, but they will keep respawning until the magical elemental flames are put out. Here is my party fighting the snakes
____
The Fourth level has a table with some potions on them; one red, one green, one yellow, and one blue. Beside these, there is a scroll. The scroll will hint that they need to make and drink a green potion in order to continue. However, there is not enough for everyone to drink.
They will need to make more--preferably by mixing the yellow and the blue. Here is my party solving this puzzle.
____
The fifth level is the top... the Wizard's library. Here, they can find whatever they need to in order to support your story. In my case, they found the wizards apprentice and got the wand of polymorph from here in order to help her former master.
I played this encounter as either a dialogue OR as a fight encounter. My players choose not to fight. You can see them use this map here, and here.
____
Hopefully you all enjoy these maps! IF you do use them in your campaign, please let me know how it went and how you used them!
If you use them in a recording, please just give me credit!

✍️ Hand Drawn From a blank page to a finished region in under two minutes (timelapse)
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
A few days ago I shared some quick stamped handout maps. Thank you for every comment and question.
Several of you DM me on how long a full map actually takes, so I filmed one. This is a whole fantasy region, from a blank page to finished, sped up to under two minutes. In real time it took about 30 minutes (you can see the afternoon shadows creep ever so slowly).
My process is roughly:
- Coastline and rivers first, by hand.
- Mountains and hills along the edges, to frame everything.
- Forests and farmland filling the lowlands.
- Villages, a castle and a few ruins where the rivers and roads make sense.
- Roads connecting it all, and small details last.
What I love about doing it this way is that it works just as well at the table, building the map while the players explore.
The finished map from the video is free to download and use in your games, no sign-up needed:

If anyone’s curious about the stamps themselves, the project is here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/kingdomsofink/kingdoms-of-ink
Happy to answer any questions, and thanks again for being such a lovely community.

🏛️ Building Map Hesperat’s Gardens
Not trusted by the master or the Yuan-Ti, but protected by their own taboos and reverence for the lost empire of the serpentfolk, the serpent warlock Hesperat lives a hermitic life in his walled compound on the southern edge of the sunken city, along the cliff walls where dwarven slaves once worked veins of copper, not far from the great tree that can be climbed out of the city. At one time he hired morlocks to watch the gardens from the tower walls, but after a decade without visitors or intruders, Hesperat gave up on the necessity.
The outer gardens are protected by a 20-foot-tall, ten-foot-thick masonry wall cut from the same grey granite as the cliff face. At each northern corner is a small watch platform 15 feet up with a set of steep stairs leading up to it. A few taller trees in the outer garden can be seen over the walls, and the main garden gate is a traditional iron gate that lets small animals in and out but keeps larger intruders out. Within there is a stone fountain with a statue of one of the ancient serpent emperors in the centre, and a collection of different types of colourful trees and plants (none of which are dangerous except some produce mildly poisonous fruit in season).
The inner gardens are mostly of weird and colourful fungi and include a shrieker that has grown used to Hesperat and rarely sounds when the serpent approaches. The main attraction of the inner gardens is the leafless tree, a large red plant from another plane that is hot to the touch. Torches (and other wooden objects) made from this wood burn for ten times as long as one would expect for a hardwood such as this.
Hesperat himself does not reside within the inner gardens – the aged serpent warlock spends most of his time basking on one of the taller trees in the garden. He is often napping, but silent magical traps on the doors and walls should awaken him if intruders arrive. But the serpent has become complacent and it can take him a week or two to renew an expired alarm spell, so each wall and entrance has a 25% chance that the alarm on it has worn off.
The 1200 dpi versions of the map were drawn at a scale of 300 pixels per square and are 7,200 x 10,800 pixels (24 x 36 squares). To use this with a VTT you would need to resize the squares to either 100 pixels (for 5′ squares) or 200 pixels (for the 10‘ foot squares that work with the furnishings as shown) – so resizing the image to 2,400 x 3,600 pixels or 4,800 x 7,200 pixels, respectively.

⚔️ Encounter Map Creepy Chasm [50x50]
This week's map is the Creepy Chasm [50x50], another spooky map for the spooky month! Make sure your players stay far away from this terrible pit, it looks like a real far fall down and not even I know what you'll find down there. There are probably nasty pale things that evolved to not have eyes anymore and are all soft and fleshy and hate the surface things with all their precious eyes they're so attached to. Essentially, unless you've got a heroic or lucrative reason to visit I'd say this is a great location to avoid.
If you like the map and are interested in more, come by my Patreon, I've got a bunch of them and I draw more every month.
Edit: I didn’t realize y’all liked chasms so much! You should try googling the Grand Canyon when your parents aren’t home- you’ll thank me later

✏️ Work In Progress Isometric try
An encounter room I have has a 3d aspect to it so I want to give at least a referencial sketch for DMs to use. I have a top-down view map. Tried to make it kinda close. It's a 8 square cube, the room, so 30 degrees is roughly 4 squares tall, 7 wide and that gets 8 squares on the hypotenuse.
How's it look so far? Some lines arent quite right for sure. Doing this with dot paper.
