Dining Room how would you improve this dining nook?

Thumbnail gallery
95 Upvotes

I feel like I'm not maximizing this space as well as I could. Due to the layout of my house...this space is primarily used as my WFH "office" because I only have a laptop...which is why I have a more comfortable desk chair on the left. I know the chairs don’t match, but hard to justify another $400 chair just for the occasional times someone else sits across from me.

I kkkw the elephant in the room is "using your dining room as an office is weird" but hey, small houses are small. I would really love a way to have an even more comfortable seat here, stretch the legs and hangout by the kitchen table more throughout the day, even this office chair leads to my body getting sore.

I feel like I could incorporate some sort of breakfast nook with a bigger table? It would be nice to have 3-4 people be able to sit here instead of 2-3 (and if it's 3, I bring up another chair and the table is clearly undersized for that).

However...there's not a ton of room for a huge table and chairs, so I'm not exactly sure what to do. Any thoughts? Thanks much!

Bedroom My youngest is moving out of my room.

Okay really both of my kids are moving out of my room (hopefully). They both currently sleep in our room 5/7 nights a week.

This is the current room for my oldest (6m). It’s more so just toy storage, cousin sleepover & a playroom right now. I’d love to transform this into a room that works for him and my youngest (3m).

The bed, Lego table & bookshelf have to stay. Everything else can go but I need something to work for their toys. I’ve got it narrowed down to five of those cream bins filled with toys so don’t care to keep the same storage.

They are both huge dinosaur and Lego lovers so hoping to incorporate some of both in decor or bedding.

Please ignore the mess. This was after a sleepover and I had a moment of I need something better for this room.

Bedroom Unsure how to make the most of extremely narrow closet

Post image
13 Upvotes

The closet in my master bedroom is 96" long and 36" wide. This picture is taken standing in the doorway to the closet. The door opens outwards, so most of the internal space is usable.

In the picture, I am holding up part of a closet rail system. I grabbed one so I could get an idea of how usable the space would be with the shelves and hangers. Obviously its very tight. From the actual end of the shelf bracket, I have 18" for a walkway. Everything I have seen says you need 30" but obviously in this space that is not physically possible.

I can't open up either of the walls since the right wall is short because the roof is very slanted, and the other side is a stairwell. So I have two main questions.

Is using a system like this feasible in a space this small? I would love to have a full closet and personally don't mind having a narrow space to walk down.

If a system like this does not make sense, what other options are there for making the most of this space?

Bedroom How to style the space in front of this large radiator?

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

I have this large radiator right between my bedroom and my small home office nook, and I’m looking for ideas to style the space around it.

I can’t cover it up or hide it entirely—and I actually like that it’s black. What I’d really love is to place something along the lower part to ground the space, add some practical function, and disguise the pipe connection on the floor.

Right now, I’m just stacking my TBR books there, but I’ll have to move them once I turn the heat back on so they don't get ruined.

Any creative ideas or inspiration?

Bedroom need advice with blankets / fabrics

Post image
5 Upvotes

I am terribly sorry if this is out of scope, but basically:

my entire life i’ve had one style of blanket, and i assumed (wrongly) everyone used the same style of blanket. i have been taught that I am wrong, and the style i’m used to is called a comforter, the downside to this discovery, my significant other is a certified comforter hater,

What style of blankets do you fine folks recommend for individuals that dislike comforters , and what fabrics/characteristics should i be searching for?

I know they tend to overheat easily, so i can understand where they’re coming from in their disdain. I just don’t know where to begin.

it’s an older photo but i have attached a photo of the room, the primary colour of the room is the green visible in the photo, with one accent wall behind the camera in a darker almost post-chocolate brown. if it wasn’t so late and i had thought of this sooner i would have found the exact sku’s of paint that i chose to help define.

thank you all in advance.

Living Room Living room layout suggestions?

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

Moving into a new house in a couple of months. Trying to figure out the living room arrangement.

I really hate TVs over the fireplace, so I desperately want to avoid that. Putting it in the interior wall / corner left of the fireplace feels correct, but then I’m worried about cutting ourselves off from the view from the window which is a massive part of the appeal of the room.

Any suggestions? Thinking couch or 4-piece sectional and chair as primary seating.

AI disclaimer: I used it to remove furniture and wall art from the listing’s photos.

Bedroom Help me decorate my room!

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

I moved into this room back in July and I’m finally getting around to decorating it. I’m very much a maximalist, but this time I want my room to feel more structured rather than just having random shit all over my walls. I will be covering that big hole next to my pegboard with a metal sheet magnet board

I’m in between getting a rectangular rug for underneath the foot of my bed or a circular rug in the open floor space. I’m also considering a runner along the side of my bed, but I’m not sure if that would be too much. I want to add a three-tier wooden wall shelf on the right side of my bed to display my digital cameras, trinkets, and other little things I’ve collected and I definitely want to add more posters. I’m debating putting an art piece above my headboard. If I do, I’d want something with an interesting or funky shape rather than something rectangular.

Would love some opinions and I’m also open to any other suggestions to make it feel more cozy and the whole layout of my room!

Bedroom What would you do with that 30 cm space?

Post image
29 Upvotes

I kept the shelves there thinking they may be useful, but now I am not so sure. It’s a 30 cm gap, the shelves are around 23 cm deep and 60 cm long.

Do you think is there anything we can do there and keeping the shelves? What would you do instead?

Happy to hear all your thoughts.

Thank you!

Any ideas on how to decorate this wall? It’s slightly angled so I don’t think framed art would make sense. Thankfully it’s a nursery so could get a little creative with it! I was thinking a garland of some sort

Home Office Space Desk placement in new house

Thumbnail gallery
30 Upvotes

Moving to new house where I can can dedicated office.
I always had my desks behind the window but apparently that is wrong?

Room is 3.5m x 3.0m
Desk 1 (long, main office)
Desk 2

P1S + Stand (maybe an IKEA table)

The two desks are 183x63 and a 140x70. The room has this annoying arch so I might have to block part of the window with the P1S table.

Is this layout better than putting the two desks behind each window ?

Home Office Space How can I make this corner a more inviting study space?

Post image

The wall is a terrible color, I’m probably going to paint the whole room. Not sure what else to do with the space. I‘ll be here after dark a lot so I don’t want to rely on natural light. I also don’t want it to feel too relaxing. I’m not sure if there’s any design principles that encourage productivity

Kitchen Remodeling and stumped about this space

Thumbnail gallery

Not sure what to do with this little alcove at the back of my kitchen. The windows are beautiful. But the space is quite small. We’ve tried putting a little bistro table there, and it’s so tight it’s difficult to move around. Please ignore the clutter, etc— we’re remodeling, and nothing is where it belongs, including my poor pothos.

Bedroom Where would you place the bed?

Thumbnail gallery

Moving into this room in a house built so long ago it’s not even in council records. It’s got a very unique structure to it.

This part of the room is about 4x3 metres (13.1x9.8 ft) and there is a vanity room thing attached (3rd pic) is about 3.5x2 metres (11.5x6.5 ft)

I have a double bed Im struggling to decide whether to place it with the headboard against the window or against the right wall. The only thing holding me back from the right wall is it shares a wall with the kitchen/dining area and I’m worried about sound. The window doesnt have a flyscreen.

I have a nice shoji room divider if that helps with anyone concerned with feng shui.

Btw that closet looking thing in the corner of the bigger area in the fourth pic is actually a sink 🤷‍♀️

There is also a small skylight in both areas so I am considering a canopy over my bed to help dissipate the light? Not sure..

Any tips on design would be so appreciated as I am horrendous at this.
