I am not having a great time

I’m not talking about academically because I’m capable of getting good grades under the right conditions. I’m mainly talking about socially. Aside from my roommates I haven’t made a single solid friend here. It’s just that I feel impossible invading over establish friends and what not I’m a transfer junior who majors in actuarial science and although I talk to a few of my classmates and they seem pretty decent. None of them has ever followed up on any conversations or invite me anywhere or shit like that. It’s probably because I’m autistic, but I can’t seem to approach friends and I’ve been pretty much struggling with that my entire life even if people would want to be my friendon Reddit or something like that I still feel reluctant. I’m so laser focused on finding my people. Idk idk idk I’m spiraling

Advice Rant over Financial Aid

I’m not gonna be able to finish my degree bc I owe 3255 (AFTER the appeal grant was like 345$) this quarter and the aid at DePaul is so fucking terrible 😞 I why does college have to be a fucking financial HELL towards poor student??

But, hey, new fucking “100% donor-funded” basketball facility that only our nothingburger basketball team can use COMING SOON!! 🤬🤬🤬

Oh, and giving money to help kill kids on the other side of the world.

Course/Class Registration never having enough classes or seats

Is it just me, or does it feel like less and less classes are being offered with even smaller class sizes. It feels impossible to find anything that fits into my schedule, and it really grinds my gears.

Any Depaul Music students available for private lessons for an elementary student?

Hello to the DePaul music community. My daughter is in 5th grade at Oscar Mayer Elementary at CPS and currently playing the flute in band, but she’s shy and struggling a bit and needs a bit of individual support to improve her confidence. I’m happy to pay whatever the going rate is to any students (undergrad or grad!) looking to earn a little extra cash teaching her weekly lessons. We live in Lincoln Park near Halsted and Armitage.

Question - Instant Response Scientific Inquiry class recommendations???

Hello, I am a psych major and I want peoples opinions on some interesting yet fun classes under “Science as a Way of Knowing Course.” Also some professors you don’t and do recommend. I took BIO 202 without any past experience in biology, so that class was hell for me. The professor was great though! But please help me out!

Question Substance/Alcohol Abuse Recovery Community/Meetings at DePaul

Hey everyone, I was looking to see if anyone knew about student-run substance abuse recovery meetings at DePaul? Or if anyone knew of any active recovery support or if there's a recovery community at DePaul? I'm a alcoholic on day 1 of my sobriety from alcohol again and I was just looking for support, preferably from peers. A lot of links that they provide on DePaul's website regarding mental health support and recovery are dead or inactive so I figured I'd ask if anyone in the community knew of any resources. Thanks!

Question Survey request: disabled or chronically ill current or recent higher education students, undergrad or graduate!

Post image
0 Upvotes

My name is Clara Mey and I am a PhD candidate at the University of Delaware. I am conducting a research study about disabled students’ experiences with disability accommodation processes in higher education for my dissertation. As a disabled graduate student, this topic is particularly important to me!

Please see the flyer linked here: Disability and Higher Ed Research Flyer

DePaul University was randomly selected as part of my analysis for my dissertation, and I wanted to make sure that students at the randomly selected universities/colleges had the opportunity to participate in my research!

In order to participate, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have attended college or graduate school in the US within the last five years
  • Self-identify as disabled or having a chronic health or mental health condition

You do not need a formal diagnosis, and you can participate whether or not you registered or applied for accommodations!

If you agree, you will be asked to complete an anonymous online survey taking about 20 minutes. You may also choose to enter into a drawing for one of five $20 gift cards at the end of the survey. If you choose to enter, your email will not be associated with your survey responses.

If you would be interested in participating in this study or would like to learn more, please click the link here: Disability and Higher Education Survey. And if you know people who might be interested, feel free to share this information!

If you have any questions, please contact me at [csmey@udel.edu](mailto:csmey@udel.edu) or my advisor, Dr. Eric Rise, at [erise@udel.edu](mailto:erise@udel.edu). Or feel free to comment or message me here!

Thank you!

Question Considering applying to DePaul, is it worth it?

Currently a senior in HS and finalizing my apps list. I'm looking at DePaul, I love the Chicago area and their academics seem up my alley, but I've been having a hard time getting a grasp on what student life is like so thought I'd come here. Any pros and cons would be much appreciated!

Question: scholarship & dropping a class

Scholarship requirement is to be a full-time student (3 classes). I already paid tuition this quarter for the three classes that I’m taking. However, there is one class that I just hate. I'm procrastinating everything and already know I won't pass solely due to how bored and disinterested I am… I’ve never had another class like this and I want to drop it so that my GPA doesn't suffer. The class is an elective, so I don't need it for anything.

My question is: if I drop the course (bringing me down to only 2 classes this quarter), would my scholarship “revert” (IDK how else to phrase it) and make me pay the full tuition amount for this quarter? Or, since I had three classes when I paid it, am I fine?

Advice Thinking of switching into Theatre

So to start of, I’m a comp sci major, freshman. I always like technology so I don’t hate what I’m currently doing, but as a child I loved acting and writing, and since I’ve been in healthy environments again I’ve been rekindling my love for the arts, and one dream of mine was always to get into acting, and I’ve been thinking about switching my major to acting, but I just get scared of making decisions and wanted some outside opinions.

Is it a stupid idea? I know DePaul is really good for film stuff, but also I have to figure out how the required classes work for film since I would have missed the fall classes. Any advice would help, thank you!
