HELPFUL INFORMATION Your help to find your lost snake

Well, your snake got out, or you lost site of it for just long enough to loose it. Don't Panic. If you have kept your room clean, and left a hide of some sort against your wall check there first. If you are reading this and have not lost your snake, clean your room, and put a hide of some sort along the wall in the room.

First check any objects that can function like a hide. Anything that has a hollow base, and a way to get under it may serve as a hide.

When moving objects check on the under and on the under side of the object. Smaller snakes can hide in smaller areas, but don't discount larger areas. Lift objects strait up. Dragging an object can smash the snake if it is under it. Pick a clear spot in the room to move objects to. You don't want to smash you snake putting something right back down ontop of it.

Your snake can climb. Your snake can be up on a book shelf, or under an object, that is on top of another object. Your snake could be anywhere. Until you find your snake check around the moving parts on everything. I once had a wild lizard dive into my AC right as I turned it on. It did not end well for the lizard.

Your snake is likely to be in the same room as you keep it. If there are any spots in adjacent rooms that have small warm spots check those spots regularly. Behind computers or TVs can be a great place for a snake to stay warm and hide. After checking those spots move back to the room you keep your snake.

If you can not find your snake in the room you keep it expand the search to those adjacent rooms.

If you can not find your snake on the first day don't give up hope. Put out water dishes for your snake along the walls. A healthy snake can go many months without food depending on its size. Put things that can serve as hides along your walls, check then regularly.

You can lay out powder, baby powder or just flower along walls to see if your snake is active in that room of your house at night.

You can stack 2 empty soda can along a wall. on a hard wood floor if your snake knocks them down you may hear them fall and alert you to where your snake is. Also if your snake just pushes the cans aside you will know it has been there.

You can use tape traps, but use vary week tape. Painter's tape, or scotch tape you would use on a present will work. lay out the tape sticky side up. IF THE TAPE IS STRONG ENOUGH TO RIP OFF YOUR ARM HAIR IT IS TOO STRONG, AND COULD HURT YOUR SNAKE GETTING IT OFF. Plastic tape even if it does not immobilize your snake could make a lot of scratching noise, and make it easier to find your snake. Using tape is vary risky. Your snake could die to dehydration, over heat, get too cold, or get caught by your dog or cat, or bigger reptile. Tape is the bane of all snakes. Use tape at your own risk.

Some people have luck baiting their snake out with food. Snakes also like sticking to their own territory. Some say leaving your snake's enclosure open on the floor can lead to your snake finding its way back home.

If you find your pet snake please leave a comment, and a picture of where you found your pet snake. This may help others to know where to check to find their pet snake.

QUESTION im a new owner worried about doing this all wrong

hello! i got my boy indou over a week ago. he's an ultramel cinder morph, almost three months old, and my first ever snake. i absolutely adore him but i feel like ive already messed up a bunch. :(

the main thing being that a few days ago, he got stuck on a glue pad for an entire day without me noticing. i had one of those stupid thermometers that stick to the wall and he'd managed to wedge himself between it; the entire time, i thought he was just resting there until i noticed he was sitting oddly. i was immediately able to get him off with some food based oil, rinsed him off with lukewarm water, and checked for injuries. i still do not see any injuries on him, and ive handled him a few times since to check if anything changes or shows up.

he gets fed on thursdays; tonight would technically be on schedule, but im worried about regurgitation. with his morph having amelanistic traits, ive learned that i can see some of his organs(?), such as his gallbladder. on top of that, i see something that almost looks like a stretched out, thinned pinky mouse in his belly area, and im wondering if maybe all the stress is making his digestive system work slower than usual and if i should halt feeding for this week.

he has lukewarm water, his warm side is set to 85° while his cool side is set to 75°. i usually have his warm side higher, but due to his stress, i looked it up and found out that i should lower it a bit to prevent further dehydration. he has three hides - one warm hide, one cool/humid hide, and a cork bark branch that sits halfway on both sides. he's also able to hide under his substrate, which ive noticed. his water bowl is large enough to soak in as well as drink (tho i wonder should he have a separate bowl for that?) while being shallow enough to not pose a threat. his thermometers/hygrometers are going to be switched to digital as soon as i get them.

i guess my main question is just.. help me be better? what am i missing, how do i go further from here? what are some things i should know specifically about amelanistic babies? i love him so much and the last thing i want is for his quality of life to be anything less than perfect :( i did my research prior, but i still feel anxious. im well aware of trial vs error after owning three bioactive community fish tanks, but this is still new to me. please help

I'm preparing to purchase my first corn snake and first reptile in general and was looking for opinions/advice on this rookie setup. I know it's not perfect and pretty generic but is this suitable as a first setup? Any additional advice or suggestions?

HELP! Is my snake over/under weight??

Thumbnail

For some backstory i got her when I was maybe 12?? Shes about 4 or 5 now, I got her as a gift when she was a baby but wasnt really her caretaker until 2 years ago. I didn't know much about snakes other then what i was told by the pet store and my own research. As ive had her these past two years ive been trying my best to make her happy, shes in a 60 gallon tank and she has climbing rings, 2 hides, 2 water bowls, and more. She gets a large mouse (the ones are about 3 inches long) every Thursday and shes about 28g and maybe 2.5 feet long, ive been feeding her like this for a long while because thats what the pet store told me to do but when i looked it up it said she was underweight yet being overfed? Im confused is shes underweight or overweight 😅 I need constructive criticism please i want the best for her.

QUESTION enclosures… escape proof?

Hello I recently got a bearded dragon who came with a 4 by 2 by 2 ecoflex enclosure and I have a facebook marketplace diy enclosure(that is bigger than the ecoflex) as well originally the diy enclosure was for a beardie but I had plans to modify it for the corn snake but I am not currently confident I can get it snake proofed as there is little gaps everywhere so I was thinking about moving the beardie and putting my corn into the ecoflex.

Are there any good reasons I shouldn’t do this for the time being and is the ecoflex escape proof for a corn?

Edit: all my animals are rescues and I have been trying to give them all the best life I possibly can so my corn is in a tank that is slightly too small so I want to give him more room till I get another even bigger problem 6 by 2 by 2 enclosure but he is also old at over 15 years old

QUESTION New enclosure anxiety

I set up my corn with a new 120g bioactive enclosure. Its beautiful and huge and just perfect, but we have hardly seen her in the 4 months since she's moved in. She was previously in a 40gal tank and was very happy. We'd get her out and she'd be content to sit in our laps or roam around our arms, etc, but we havent been able to hold her once since she got a bigger space. Also, in the 2 years I've had her she has never bitten me once, but last week when I reached my hand into the new tank she did.

Where do you think this new aggression/isolation is coming from? I thought moving her into her bigger, nicer home would be a really great thing - but we never see her as she stays in her hide 24/7 and she is newly aggressive. It very sad and disheartening!

Hello! Im new to Reddit but also new corn snake owner I’ve had him for 3 weeks almost a month at this point I got him from petsmart and he’s about to get his 3rd feeding since I’ve had him, I’ve held him once and everyday I try to hold him but as soon as I open the lid to his enclosure he balls up the corner and gets defensive and has bitten me twice, recently he’s been biting and trying to open the lid on his own or comes to the front of the tank like he wants out and I try then and he balls up in the same corner, I understand they are like scared little kids from what I’ve read, I ordered a snake hook a few days ago, I talk to him every few hours put my hand near or in his enclosure I’m just not sure what to do about it. Thank you

QUESTION New owner, questions about heating?

hello all! super happy to be here as ive wanted a corn snake for years and was finally in a place where i could afford one.

a few days ago i brought my little friend home! i rehomed him with his full tank setup, and some upgrades had to be made early on.

my main concern is his heating setup. it was lacking in thermostats so i went to pick some up the next morning after rehoming him. the past couple of days ive been observing his temperature gradient. i have the cool side of his tank set to sit at around 75* and it pretty consistently sits between 74-76*, which i am happy about. the warm side of his tank is set to be around 85*, but usually sits between 81-84*. it's winter, i live in a cold area, and i tend to keep my room cold. He currently has 2 100 watt ceramic heat lamps, and a heating pad.

my questions are:

- my room gets especially cold at night. is 70-71* on the cold side and 78-79* on the warm side appropriate night time temperatures for him, or should i work on trapping more heat for him?

- are his daytime temperatures appropriate, or should i be creating more warmth for him? (especially the ambient air on the warm side)

- if the warm side of his tank is too cold, will adding a basking zone bring up the ambient temperature in the surrounding air? or should i be investing in new heating equipment? (i had to scrap his current basking zone, as it involved a UVB light and he is albino palmetto and one of those heat rocks that are known to cook your snake, yikes. i will also take suggestions for setting up a new one, i plan on heading to the store after my shift at work today to pick up another round of supplies for him.)

thank you in advance to everyone who responds and i will gladly take any advice and tips anyone has. I'm super excited about my new little friend and I'm wanting him to have the longest most comfortable life possible!

HELP! What are the best substrate and heating options for a baby corn snake

Hello, im a new snake owner but i do have experience with other reptiles, what are the best substrate for a baby corn snake? I live in a tropical country so ambience temperature can go up to 32°C on my room at the afternoon and drop to 24-26°C at night. My experiences with other reptiles is that they need a paper towel or a solid substrate when they're a baby but a loose one once they're older, but i cant find a specific guide for a baby corn snake

Im also trying to find the best heating option for my snake, currently im using a spare heat lamp but maybe there's a better alternative considering my temperature and other things

Any helps and tips would be appreciated

HELP! What does this mean?

QUESTION Would my corn snake have changed too drastically?

She just passed away today. I feel terrible. I'm planning on painting her on a flowerpot and burying her in it, but I have not a single recent picture. Just these 3 when I first got her 3 years ago. I couldn't stand it if I had to paint her using her body as a reference. Would her pattern have changed that much when she was little? Or is it essentially the same?

HELP! 2 yr old corn given to me with basically nothing for set up.

So, this dude, was handed to me by my former neighbors bc they're now homeless. The heating pad they had for the tank is not working, the light is a red bulb and not heating well. I feel like the tank is too small for him, too? But I don't have much rn money wise until I get my raise, so I'm trying to find a good way to warm him up/make him comfortable and happy while he's here. I'm going thru perimenopause, so my place is always cold, and I know they need heat. I've checked a couple posts already, and have a slight idea, but if possible I would like some owner approved items since most of the reviews I've read about some things are not so good.

I appreciate you all and will drop snake tax if asked/needed. :) Thank you
