Discussion What did you think about the series Rome (2005-2007)?

The first of my posts of favorite television series. It goes back to Julius Caesar so this one is the oldest in terms of its period, and definitely high in overall quality of everything from acting to set dressing. Well grounded characters living their lives in the day and based on history, what are your thoughts on the HBO show Rome?

Video Essay/Analysis (Weeks later) Digger still has me in awe.

To put it very very simply, Digger is a “weird” movie, it is absolutely not for everyone. That being said Inarritu & Tom Cruise made something special for cinema, it’s just so unique & separate from other films. It’s like a willy-wonka esque fever dream about billionaires & political tyrants in the modern age.

And as much as people don’t like Tom Cruise for science reasons, he’s the reason why DIGGER works so well.

All I'm saying is, I'm just glad this movie exists. It's strange, ambitious, and completely its own thing. That's the kind of art I can appreciate.

Is this the best father revenge scene ever? Even gave him a moment to think about what's coming before blasting with that spike

Ive been working on a World Film Discovery Website

I've been working on a movie discovery website that focuses on world cinema. My goal of the site is to help users discover films that they might not be familiar with. We help users find films from a number of different ways, but something that I'm trying to do is take a look at cinematic influence and use that to help users discover new films to watch. I’m hoping I could get some feedback from the community on the quality of films they’re finding. If your open to providing feedback you can view it at Cinema Atlas, https://cinema-atlas.com/

Movies saved solely by one actor/actress?

• Upvotes

In more recent months, I've seen "Obsession" praised as one of the best films of the decade. I don't necessarily disagree it's a good movie, but I think its plot and screenplay are not that good. For me, the movie is watchable almost entirely because of Inde Navarrette's performance as Nikki. -Heath Ledger as The Joker comes to mind as well-

Her portrayal is immaculate. I genuinely can't imagine a better casting choice for the character, and her performance is what makes the movie a good piece of art. -Ron Perlman as Hellboy. Can't get enough of him-

Are there any movies that make you feel a single actor or actress saved it by miles? Films where, without that one performance, the whole thing might have fallen apart?

Discussion Why is are there censored words in the subtitles on a Fellini movie i rented on Apple TV?

Post image
11 Upvotes

The movie is city of women (la città della donne) so there's plenty of other dirty words. Why is this censored? Ive actually never seen this before on any foreign film I've rented or purchased. I guess i don't understand why they're censoring "shit" and "fuck" but showing full on butthole.

By the way... this is my first time seeing this one and I'm in LOVE! It's absolutely hilarious and the scenes are so active and beautiful and the cinematography is amazing and i can't believe I've never seen this one before.

Edit: argh typo in my title 🫩

Discussion I remember seeing Ice Castles at the movie theater in 1978 days before Christmas. It’s such a classic, sentimental "feel-good" tearjerker and romantic sports movie. Plus Melissa Manchester’s song "Through the Eyes of Love," is simply beautiful… Anyone else liked this movie?

Discussion What are your thoughts on Terry Gilliam’s 12 Monkeys (1995)?

This movie came out at a time of transition for me and it was perfect timing for a Terry Gilliam movie I could disappear into. A crazy futuristic time-travel extravaganza with memorable performances across the board.
I loved it and it’s still among my favorite films by the director. What do you think of 12 Monkeys?

I really like the films Apocalypse Now and All The President's Men. I also love going to the cinema. I try to go every day. I live in The Netherlands. I also lovee being creative, especially crafting, making my own stickers, and drawing.  I also love printing scenes and collages from films on cinema tickets. I have experience with penpals! Any other film festival fans here?

Over the past year, I’ve had the opportunity to go several film festivals all over the US and still can’t compare how great it is to see and be around so many other movies fans all live at a theater. Maybe it’s because I grew up going to see films in theaters with crowds that I’m nostalgic for it, but even with a “movie room” at my own house, it’s not the same. Sitting in a packed theater, seeing support for film (especially low-budget indie films), and getting to discover films that I otherwise would likely have missed has been great and is something that I feel a lot of people miss out on now days.

(Disclosure: I am a filmmaker myself, but I’m also a huge movie nerd and fan. Especially sci-fi, dark dramas, and cosmic horror.)

Discussion To this day, the movie “Burnt Offerings” in my opinion is the most terrifying scary movie to be rated PG. I saw it at the movie theater in 1976 with my parents and I was 9 years old. I remember I had to sleep with a night light on for weeks after seeing this. Still one of my favorites…

Discussion What’s one of your all time favorite teaser trailers that you saw in movies and you immediately said, “Definitely gonna watch watch that on opening day!”… We saw both ROCKY IV when it opened on November 27, 1985 and Terminator 2 the day it opened also.

Discussion What is the most chilling line delivery in any movie?

For me, it's John Huston in Chinatown:

"I don't blame myself. You see, Mr. Gittes, most people never have to face the fact that at the right time and the right place, they're capable of anything."

Discussion Why do so many big budget titles begin filming without finished scripts?

I saw James Spader comment that he committed to filming Vision Quest without a script. The Russo Brothers similarly said the began filming Doomsday with no script. And in Avengers, the actors mentioned that the script changed daily.

Why is this? Why is it so common in Marvel films? I know for Chris Nolan films, everything starts with a script. It's the first thing he shares as he recruits actors. For other films, the script is used to build support for the film.

Is it because the genre is so fx heavy, the team is never sure how to actually film the scenes? Is it because the actors have a lot of influence on the script? Or is it just because the films as on a set release schedule, and everything is rushed?

Discussion “It”s meta costume choice

Post image

I have a question about Andy Muschettis 2017 It. In it Belch is seen wearing a t shirt for the band Anthrax and their album Among the Living. Among the Living is based on the Stand. So for Belch to wear that shirt Stephen King has to exist in Andys It universe. Now me question is… was this intentional? I mean it IS totally period appropriate and totally in character for Belch. If anyone in costuming or Andy Muschetti, or Stephen King or anyone who can answer that definitively could chime in that would be awesome.
