Mod Post To ensure quality posts, please refer to our new Wiki page!

Hey beauties! As we approach 1 million subscribers, we are fine tuning the rules and made a designated page to see more detailed lists of posts we remove under Rule 1.

To recap, Rule 1 of r/beauty is to please post high quality and on-topic posts ONLY.

We understand just stating the rule so plainly leaves room for interpretation, while the side bar might not give enough room for explanation.

To improve the quality of the subreddit, we have broken down in detail (and will keep doing so) what we consider low quality and off topic in our new beauty wiki. This way, there should be less confusion on why posts labeled as low quality/off topic might have been removed. While browsing the wiki, you may notice some overlap with Rules 2 through 6, but they all relate back to Rule 1 due to preserving quality.

As a reminder, a high quality/on topic post would have a specific beauty-related question be addressed, or solve a specific beauty-related problem. For example, "How can I draw winged eyeliner more consistently on each eye" would be a high-quality post because it asks a specific question. In contrast, "EYE MAKEUP HELP" makes it harder for users to give their beauty tips because it's too vague.

When in doubt, please review the beauty wiki to see if your post would be in violation of Rule 1 before posting to avoid removal and ban.

We also invite you to leave feedback here of any other posts you feel are off-topic and low quality that have not been addressed. Please let us know if you have any questions!

Seeking Advice traditional vs korean/other lash lifts- lash lifts dropping

i've gotten lash lifts for a while but not regularly. the first few treatments were amazing and lasted forever. but after a few times they started dropping and the curl wasn't as dramatic. i can't figure out what's causing this. i know the place changed products so im wondering if its that. a lot of places dont seem to do traditional lash lifts anymore, which i am assuming is what i used to get before the product change. it's really annoying me cause my lashes are really coarse and stubborn so korean lash lifts or similar just don't work as well. any tips for what to ask my beauty therapist? will leaving the solution on for longer help? or are there other reasons for the lashes dropping?

Discussion How good is treaclemoon/Philosophy for the skin?

Post image
1 Upvotes

My partner has recently bought me treacle-moon bath and shower gels, I did for a brief moment get nostalgic as I vividly remember these and philosophy from my childhood/teen years. I just looked it up and saw that philosophy is still going but their store page looks underwhelming and lacking choices. So far I’ve been sticking with these ones and they do smell amazing, they’re quite affordable and apparently vegan. Is anyone else using these/philosophy and how would you rate it? Or do you use something else? I’m trying to see what brand has the most benefits.

Makeup Multicolor eyeshadow sticks?

I keep seeing ads for muticolor shadow sticks where you swipe, blend a little and go. The company seems questionable but I like the idea. Do these exist from a reputable brand?

Seeking Advice Heel Problems

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey all I recently got these heels which are really nice they are black loafer pumps with 3inch heel I got them in a size 11 to wear to wicked. I noticed that they fit fine while standing still but where difficult when walking. My foot was slipping out while walking to the show. I even wore another layer of sock so they would fit better. However I recently also got a white pair of heels for a costume and they are 11s but fit fine while walking. Should I get grippers or downsize to 10.5?

Ps I’m a men’s 8.5 and this was my first time wearing heels and the internet said to go up a few sizes, but also I was in a store ones and tried on a women’s 10 and it also fit fine so I am a bit confused!
Ty!

Where can I find this lip combo?

Post image
0 Upvotes

This lip combo is so cute I want to try it, I love black lipstick but I don't think It compliments me. My skin tone is light but not pale and my hair is brown. My face goes better with more of a brown tone color palette that's why I use brown eyeliner as well. But I still want to try black lipstick, I think a black lip combo like this instead of a full black lip will look good.

Seeking Advice Need help on my eyebrows and makeup

I’ve been getting into doing my own makeup as lately which includes experimenting with colors and techniques. My style tends to go from natural to soft glam. I would say I’m a somewhat beginner. So any criticism and advice on how I’m doin my makeup or anything else is free game to me. One thing that is stressing me out is my brows, I wonder if the look to strong??? Or to pointy. Should I shave more off. For example I feel like the look different from each other. I was initial going for a straight soft arch brows. But everytime I look back in photos of myself i never know how to feel about my brows, I’m not sure if I’m over thinking. I’m thinking of shaving my upper portion of my brow down to flatten the arch. Not sure tho.

Discussion UPDATE: Brazilian done wrong

Original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/beauty/s/2eZJeKl4cp

To give a quick recap (go to the original post if you want to the full derails): A while ago I posted on this sub because I attempted to give myself a Brazilian wax for the first time at home. It went horribly wrong and I ended up having to book with a professional the next day to fix the mess. I was using soft wax and I didn’t know what I was doing. I had previously only done my legs and thought “how hard could it be?” I swore to everyone that I would never attempt to do it myself ever again, that it was a hard lesson learned.

However, I refused to give up. I’ve had quite a few Brazilians done professionally and the waxer always left hairs on me.. $100 + tip is a lot of money to spend for an incomplete job. One time the waxer even bruised my leg. Why am I paying all this money to someone to wax me who can’t even do it right? When I could do it myself at home for FREE?

That’s when I discovered what hard wax was. A non strip wax that doesn’t adhere to skin, is FAR less painful (in my experience), and even grabs all those stubborn tiny baby hairs so I don’t have to tweeze anymore???
So I bought myself a bag of cirepil wax off amazon, watched some demonstration videos…tried it on my legs a few times, and said screw it. I am not going back to the salon and paying over $100 just to find little hairs left on me the next time I go use the bathroom.
So I sat down with my mirror, took a deep breath, and anxiously applied a first strip to the bikini area, trying my best to replicate the same kind of application that the professionals used in their videos. It wasn’t a perfect application, but it was good enough. I used the stick to flick up a little piece so I could rip off the strip, counted to 3 and closed my eyes before quickly ripping it off and bracing myself for the worst….only for me to barely feel any pain. I opened my eyes thinking I applied it wrong and hadn’t pulled up any hairs, only to see that my bikini line was BALD and that strip was FULL of hair.
My flabbers were gasted! I couldn’t believe it. The bikini line was by far the most painful area with my previous at home waxes with soft wax. After staring at the strip in disbelief…I anxiously applied another strip. And another and another, closing my eyes and bracing myself for the worst each time. Only each time I was surprised at how well I tolerated it and how unpainful it was.
I have since been doing my at home Brazilians with hard wax for about 7 months now! So, in short, I did not learn my lesson LOL. I’ve improved with every wax I’ve done on myself and I haven’t touched my soft wax pot since. No more salon trips for $100+ just to go home and still have hair left :) it might take awhile and be really awkward having to get in all those odd positions..but I get the job done.

TLDR: tried a Brazilian on myself with soft wax once, went horribly, discovered hard wax and never looked back.

Seeking Advice Leg Waxing: Roll on Vs Wax Warmer

Looking for a rec for waxing my legs at home. Should I invest in a roll on system or wax warmer and beads? I’ve waxed myself before and feel like I can handle either system. Would also appreciate brand recommendations!!

Seeking Advice How to tan for beginners?

Hi, so, I’m like BRAND new to tanning. I’ve sorta naturally tanned all my life because I’m indigenous, so I’m already sorta tan.

But recently, ive wanted to look ACTUALLY tan. I’ve tried sitting in the sun, but it burns me a bit more than it tans me.

Ive wanted to try tanning lotions, but I’m scared of price and I’m scared of looking all splotchy. I used someone elses tanning lotion ONCE andd it kinda burnt when I say in the sun? I assumed that was normal, but if not, let me know..

But yeah, basically I just want to tan better and have healthier looking skin! If anyone could give me tips, that would be greatly appreciated.

Seeking Advice Looking terrible on beach vacation in hot and humid weather

Does anyone have a tip for looking good on beach vacation? I always look terrible, sweaty and unkept while other women around look stunning and seem to enjoy the heat. I get sweaty immediately in the hotel lobby, especially my hair and bangs which is impossible to keep in place and dry :( it gets frizzy and wavy, make up stays on for a few minutes (I have to wipe sweat from my forehead and upper lip all the time). I look like a hot mess in all vacation photos. On a windy beach? Forget it!
Are some people just not made for hot climate? I’m a healthy, lean and in moderate climate otherwise attractive woman lol.

Discussion Brushed up eyebrows

I’m a middle age woman trying to keep up with the always changing makeup/fashion trends…..
I’m really kind of confused about the brushed up eyebrow thing…. Like instead of the hairs being in a more lay down arch, the hairs are being brushed straight up-
I am not really sure about this …. Trend or here to stay?

Haircare hair

My hair is very long, reaching down to my lower back, and I’m looking for any product that could make the lengths and ends look as thick and full as the hair from my roots to my shoulders. The hair below my shoulders is very thin, probably due to frequent heat styling with a flat iron.

What would be better for thin / fine straight long hair that doesn't hold heat well especially curls.

I want salon-esque home blow dries without frying my hair so much.

getting my nails done professionally for the first time

Post image
238 Upvotes

so i'm getting them done for the first time and i'm not sure how im supposed to work with them but i really really wanna have this experience at least once in my life 🥹 to just feel pretty i guess. my concern is how do you do makeup/skincare with it? wouldn't facial creams get under them and whatnot? i use my fingers to spread the cream around on my face and whatnot. the length isn't that big honestly. i made sure to go for something that wasn't too long and also long enough that i could feel like i actually had my nails done. thank you for any tips guys

Seeking Advice IPL Flash? Eyes? Help!

I recently got Ubroo IPL hair removal device, and no matter what angle I put while doing on upper lip, i could still see the zap lights. I tried with goggles on, with travel eye sleep mask on and putting hand on it as well, but no use, I could still see the zip light.

This is second time this happened for upper lip –

First time few weeks ago, I did 2 zaps in level 1 where my eyes felt uncomfortable for short awhile (few hrs), – This second time I thought i could try with two layers and close with hand on top (now feels like an idiot for risking it), did three zaps, two in level 2, and one in level 1 - felt laser light through googles/mask every single time.

I'm planning to stop on upper lip, don't wanna risk anymore. Now my only worry is, are my eyes gonna be fine? Is this gonna cause harm?

Has anyone else faced this before? Please do share the experiences and afterwards!

Seeking Advice Is a red light mask worth it?

I was so tempted to buy a red light mask a year ago but decided to wait and see if people were still using them a year on or if it was just a social media trend.

So, if you have one do you genuinely recommend it? Have you seen a difference? Is it worth the money? And any recommendations of which brand?! Thank you!
