MARKETPLACE Monthly Marketplace/Classifieds Mega Thread

Welcome Traffic Lovers!

Welcome to the monthly Buy / Sell / Trade thread for the Baton Rouge area. Whether you're looking to score a deal on a video game or movie, find a roommate, or trade something local, this is the spot to share your listings and links! Gofundme links are allowed; however, they will be reviewed.

Just a quick note: to keep things tidy, please keep all buy / sell / trade posts in this thread. Standalone posts in the subreddit will be removed so everything stays easy to find.

Happy swapping!

A quick reminder to help keep things safe and smooth for everyone:

Before moving forward with any deal, it's a good idea to check out the post and comment history of the person you're chatting with. If their account looks new or doesn’t have much activity, that doesn’t always mean something’s wrong but it’s smart to ask for extra proof of the item, just to be sure.

Trust your instincts and do a little due diligence. Services like SpyDialer can help verify phone numbers. VOIP or out-of-state numbers can sometimes be red flags (though not always).

If you're meeting in person, aim for a public spot with lots of people and/or security. A great option is the Police Station on Airline (the one near the old Women’s Hospital). Try to avoid meetups at someone’s home or a random gas station. Bringing a friend along is always a plus.

And finally, if something seems too good to be true, it probably is, don’t hand over any money until you’ve seen the item in person. Do not pay for something with gift cards!

HOT LOCAL ISSUES Zip Ties Tied to Porch. Serious or no?

Yesterday I got in to my house around six, so it wasn’t quite dark outside. I looked to the side and saw a zip tie tied to my porch railings. I was confused but I just went in my house. I was on the phone with my friends and asked if I should go cut it and they said not right now, wait till the morning. Don’t know if whoever left it is around. My mind immediately went to like human trafficking or my house being marked to be robbed. I’m a woman living by myself in like a townhome community area, so a lot of homes bunched together. I share a porch with my neighbors and didn’t see any on their side.

So next morning, before I left for work, I cut it with gloves on and threw away. The way it was put on, someone would have to be on my porch or through my little garden to tie it. So I take a picture of the porch and go down to take a picture of the railing from the garden area and see a SECOND zip tie I couldn’t see, facing away from porch. This freaked me out a little because this seems less like a prank or something random and something planned. I cut that one down too.

I’m wondering if anyone else had a similar experience? All I can see on the internet are things saying that zip ties being used on railings for trafficking is a hoax or myth. But I really can’t explain this. And I’m pretty observant, the zip ties were not there when I left for work that day or any other time before yesterday. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

FOOD/DRINK Any good donut shops / bakeries near LSU?

I’m from Mandeville originally and there was a bake shop right by my house called Mandeville Bake Shop. They have the BEST chocolate glazed buttermilk donuts, and I’ve been missing them recently. I doubt many places here have buttermilks but any good donut shop will do at this point lol. Any recommendations?

ADVICE Looking for friends

How ya'll doing? I'm an introverted dude in my early thirties, finally deciding to put myself out there. When I'm not working, I'm at home on the Xbox, listening to music, and writing. Though my social skills aren't perfect, I'm trying ya'll, I'm a good listener. By the way, I'm trying to get out of the house more, too. What are some good places to go alone or with friends? Send me a dm or comment here, peace.

HOT LOCAL ISSUES The trees are all dying

Anyone else noticed all the trees are dying? I certainly have. And while tree death is almost always multifactorial in its cause, I am confident that a- if not the- primary cause is herbicide exposure, primarily the result of lawn maintenance and landscaping companies as well as municipal applications. It is severe and widespread over here in Gonzales, catostophic in the area around donaldsonville, generally very common throughout the gbr area. I could talk at length on my reasoning and theories, but for now I'm mostly just curious if this is on anyone else's radar?

Edit- meant to address this, but yes, I am aware of the lingering effects of 2023 drought and subsequent freezes. While certainly a factor, that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking specifically about trees showing tell-tale signs of herbicide exposure.

Edit #2 maybe I am overstating or getting a little ahead of myself BUT- cornerview road, hwy 73, and other parts of gonzales have herbicide damage. Less confident about other areas because I haven't examined them as closely. Most of the consumer weed killers have been reformulated. These newer herbicides aren't like glyohosate. They make trees melt

If you see this bromeliad, it is not Spanish Moss (Tillandsia usneoides) it is Ball Moss (T. Recurvata). If left unchecked it can harm your trees/shrubs! Remove it today!

ADVICE Good Local Mechanic Shops near Siegen?

Good evening, everyone, I hope all is well. I have a 2004 Lexus Rx330 and the alternator most likely went out. Battery light came on and the car turned off while in traffic. It died as soon as you disconnected the battery charger as well.

I’m looking for a good local shop that’s experienced with Lexus and charge a fair price around the Siegen area. I’ve used Siegen Car Care for a serpentine belt job and heard about K&M Automotive. I just want to be sure I’m going to the best option this time. Much appreciated my good folks ~

Edit: Thank you everyone for the fast replies. Very much appreciated!

Looking for a new home to an experienced cat owner!!!!

This is Bleu. She is 3 years old. She is currently at Cat Haven.

She is a sweet sweet girl, but has some anxiety and gets skittish when threatened. This is why we're looking for an experienced owner, someone who has had experience with cats and anxious cats.

We had her for about 9 months, and our job required us to a space that was simply too small for a pet She loves to cuddle but will initiate on her own timeline, and will politely leave when she's done! She's very quiet and is an easy kitty. She's very good at entertaining herself, and is a generally low maintenance cat. She is also up to date with all shots and is a healthy girl.

Please reach out with any questions, or go visit her at Baton Rouge's Cat Haven : 11130 N Harrells Ferry Rd, Baton Rouge, LA 70816

ADVICE Apartment Mailbox

I live in an apartment complex (I won’t name) and my mail key broke off inside the mailbox lock. The complex just told me I have to go to a post office on Bennington to request a new lock and key. Is that normal? Shouldn’t they be the ones to handle that? Also it looks like other mail boxes get left open and idk if other people have problems with their mailboxes as well. Please give me advice.

ADVICE Looking for fields to film at in Baton Rouge

Hi y’all! I’m an LSU film student looking for a filming location within about 30 minutes or so from LSU. I need a large, open field with a tree line in the background and nearby covered shelter for the crew to rest and charge equipments.

We’ll be filming mostly at night from October 23–26, roughly 5 PM–5 AM, with the morning of the 26th being our final shoot.

If anyone has suggestions or knows of a location that might work, I’d really appreciate the help.

Please send me a DM if you have anything or have questions about the project! Thanks!

I'm looking to change and want to see people's experience in the BR area. A long time ago I had tried T-Mobile and it was terrible, but I've heard they installed all new towers over the past few years.
