Baby fussy in the carrier?

It is very common for babies to be fussy in carriers at different stages. They dislike transitions and although it’s not officially tummy time it does work their bodies and they can start to push off you like tummy time. If you haven’t already, feel free to post a fit check (edit faces out for privacy) and see if there is any suggestions that can be made. If the fit is good and they are recently fed and changed there is nothing wrong with waiting for 10-15 minutes to see if baby settles. A couple simple things to try are going outside with them, putting on music, singing or gentle bouncing to help sooth them.

Video discussing how crying in a carrier is not always because of the carrier.

Article discussing why baby may be crying in the carrier and some suggestions.

When developmentally ready, a hip carry can be a good option to allow fomo babies to see more and feel less restricted. This is possible in some buckle carriers but is not always the most comfortable option and you need to wait until baby is sitting unassisted.

This video contains information about when you can hip carry in a ring sling, woven wrap and meh dai.

When developmentally ready, if baby is able to get their arms out of the carrier themselves they can have them out when awake. This helps babies to feel less restrained and can make a world of difference in tolerating being in a baby carrier. Information about how and when you can let baby have an arm out of the carrier when awake.

Another strategy is back carrying. It is an amazing tool to utilize when babywearing. It allows the person carrying to have both arms free and can allow baby to have a better view and feel less restricted. In a buckle carrier (including most onbuhimos) this can be done at 6 months when baby is sitting independently. This video shows multiple ways to get baby into a back carry in a buckle carrier.

You can wear earlier in a high back carry with a woven wrap and some meh dais. This is considered an advanced skill and you should already be comfortable wrapping baby on your front. It is also recommended to have in person support from an educator. When learning to back carry in a woven wrap a couple good resources are “Back Carry Boot Camp” on YouTube, Wrap Your Baby periodically has a free back wrap challenge and Wrap You In Love has recently created a back wrap course.

Lastly, if you do chose to world face baby please refer to the information in the safety section of the wiki. This video provides some good information about some facts and myths around world facing.

18 months+ First attempt at a woven wrap, please be gentle 😅

I’m 21 weeks pregnant and decided to try a FWCC with my somewhat cranky 20 month old as my first ever carry.

Any and all tips welcome! I think I’d add a few more twists in the front before tying at my back so that I can tie under the bump (the carrier was pressing into my bump here) and I definitely get now what folks mean when they say strand by strand tightening takes practice.

Just doing the FWCC till I gain the confidence to do a back carry — I’ve only ever done with my Mei dai 😄

Blurred faces for a little more anonymity (it looks silly I know), but how is the fit on our newborn? Is he leaning a little too much? Should it be tighter? Or higher?

Thank you all in advance.

Carrier is happy baby.

Just a follow up regarding my concern from before https://www.reddit.com/r/babywearing/s/vP4jzaOZ2c , took a while bc we had to move etc. But anyways! I also got a diff carrier to test if it was my old carrier's fault but it was not haha. She's now 12months 2wks and the kicking stopped for a while but now it's back. I tried to google about it, and the internet said it's sometimes a soothing thing???? If theyre like over tired or what. But idk sometimes she does it for an hour but still doesnt fall asleep or anything 😩 im hoping it's nothing srs or what. Idk how to attach a video of the kicking haha but imagine it's like she's swimming in place or like a frog stretching its legs.

8-18 months Best woven wrap for longevity and heavy use?

I wrapped my baby multiple times a day for hours, basically every nap and outing. I plan to do the same if I have another kid and would like wrap that would do well with my current 15m old too.

Should I go with 100% cotton or a linen blend? What brand would you recommend for linen? Girasol doesn't make linen, and Didymos and LennyLamb have limited options. I'm avoiding Oscha.

Hi all, just needing some guidance with baby wearing. I am wondering if I have my 3 mo baby sitting too high on my chest. I always worry that his head isn’t in best position when sleeping, he’s never got his chin to chest, but his head doesn’t til upwards like I see in the photos of others and demonstration videos. TIA

Edit: he is 62cm and almost 7kg (15lb)

FTM with a 7 week old squish.

I’m trying to master the ring sling for easy ups and downs. Two things I’m having a hard time with:

  1. Getting the shoulder to spread well out and not cramp up on my neck
  2. Getting the extra bottom fabric to stay up between us to create a really deep pocket. It tends to slide back to her bottom and just bunch up there

Would love any feedback on fit!

Discuss How to keep baby warm without footed clothing

The ‘ber months are well on their way and i’m struggling to find clothing for my 3.5 LO that is safe to have on while she is on me. We use a stretchy wrap and I was told that footed pj’s are a no-go since they are pull at the toes (makes sense). But how else can I layer baby? I’m having a hard time finding clothing that I can use as a second layer that isn’t footed for LO’s age. Any suggestions or recommendations?

And while yes I know that LO gets plenty of warmth from me and the wrap it’s still not enough, especially outside!

Thanks in advance!

3-12 months Linen Wrap?

Hello! I’m looking for a linen wrap that I can also use as a ring sling. My baby is 22 pounds at 6 months and I really want to baby wear for awhile. I loved how my boba wrap felt but obviously he is too big for the stretchy material now. I have a momcozy structured carrier and I hate it, I’ll probably look into a different one for that. But I really would love a linen wrap that can be used for back wearing, front facing, side wearing! All of it! Is this even possible? lol

Hello!! I have been a long time lurker, I wanted to double check I’ve been doing this right 😅 baby is 3 months and now almost 11 pounds.
I am also ready to transition to a regular carrier and I’ve been curious about the OG happy baby one. Anyone with good/bad experiences that want to share their opinions? I am open to any advice for any other carrier that could fit a smaller baby. Thank you!

8-18 months What does baby/toddler wear for ~10 degrees Celsius/50F when babywearing?

Hi all,
Travelling to Japan in Dec and it’s winter over there compared to peak Australian summer, and I haven’t got a clue what to dress my 14 month old in the carrier in 10C/50F weather. Apparently those fluffy pram suits are not ideal as well.
I also don’t know how much my toddler wants to be out of the carrier or in the pram or walking either, he’s a Velcro baby so he’s always been happy to live in the carrier so far. I probably need to account for an extra layer on the side in this case?

Any help much appreciated

Thank you!!

3-12 months Looking for a breathable baby carrier

We currently have the Ergobaby Omni Classic. I love that it’s comfortable for me, but my baby runs hot so I’m looking for something that is more breathable in hot and humid weather. We are also going to be traveling with it so something not so bulky and easy to take on and off would be great. Please give me your recommendations and why. Thank you!

Hello! Just found this sub today, and it is exactly what I need. Just put my 3 week old in the ring sling for the first time. Feels snug and comfortable, legs are up in the M shape. She has a habit of getting curvy in her spine, I'm not sure if I should be trying to correct that while in the Carrier?

0-3 months Carrier suggestions?

I'm looking for recommendations for a carrier/sling/wrap that can fit me (UK 12/14) and my husband (2XL) without too much faffing to change the sizes?

Little one is currently 3 weeks old, over 4kg

We're in the UK, and ideally we would buy second hand off Vinted
