SCAMMED BY EUROPCAR BRITISH AGENT IN ALICANTE AIRPORT

• Upvotes

I need your help!!! We were royally scammed by a British guy who works at Europcar in Alicante airport. We had booked a car for 350 euros and pickup was at the airport. We landed, and he said “oh you booked from an American website” we found that funny as we booked from our company account on europcar.com”! He said “I don’t know but because it’s an American site, you won’t have insurance, if something happens you’ll have to pay the amount as much as a new car” so we asked for options and he said he can cancel the booking, book it under my name and price difference was 100 euros cheaper than original booking.”
We agreed and that’s it. Now we got back from our trip after 10 days and they charged us 850 euros!!!!!!! That’s 500 more. Problem is we signed without scrolling to check the invoice.

Anyone know this guy? Did the same happen to anyone?

Ayuda/Help Rental Question

Long shot here but I'm in Santa Pola at the moment with my family. Our holiday rental is up the end of the month and we are looking to stay on about 6 months longer. Our current rental is already booked out and we are struggling to find alternative accommodation. I've joined a couple facebook groups and posted the question but no response. Many rentals available in Torreviaja and La Zenia but not so much for Santa Pola.

Does anyone know if there is anywhere else I can look? Many thanks!

Me encantaría conocer vuestras opiniones y experiencias personales. ¡Muchas gracias de antemano!

Ayuda/Help Does anybody have any tips or recommendations with regard to WIFI in Torrevieja?

I'm hoping to spend late December and most of January in Torrevieja, and I was wondering if anybody can recommend a company that I can rent a portable WIFI from? Also, where can I find reliable free WIFI (i.e. is Torrevieja library any good?)?

Costa Blanca itinerary – November 11–17 (2 people)

Hi! My girlfriend and I are visiting Alicante for a week in November. We’ll rent a car for 3 days and would love some feedback on our itinerary. We enjoy nature, scenic drives, charming towns, coastal views, short hikes and nightlife, but don’t want any long or difficult hikes.

Wednesday: Arrive in Alicante in the evening, check into our hotel and explore the city centre.

Thursday: Spend the full day exploring Alicante – Santa Bárbara Castle, Old Town, the beach and marina.

Friday: Pick up the rental car and drive to Benidorm, stopping in Villajoyosa along the way. Explore Benidorm and go out to bars in the evening.

Saturday: Drive from Benidorm to Guadalest, explore the village and reservoir viewpoints, visit Fuentes del Algar waterfalls, then head to Altea for the evening and stay overnight.

Sunday: Explore Altea in the morning, drive to Calpe and visit Peñón de Ifach (probably a shorter hike), possibly stop in Moraira, then return to Alicante.

Monday: Stay in Alicante, take a short boat trip if available, rent bikes and cycle along the coast.

Tuesday: Fly home.

A few questions:

  • Does this itinerary seem realistic, or are we trying to fit in too much?
  • Are there any scenic stops we should add along the driving routes?
  • Is Calpe and Moraira worth visiting on Sunday, or would you recommend somewhere else?
  • Are boat trips and bike rentals usually available in mid-November?
  • Any other recommendations for activities or places to visit or anything to add?

Thank you for your feedback! <3

Hang outs/Quedadas Moving with 7 year old

Hello

We are moving to Alicante because of my husbands work. He speaks fluid Spanish but my daughter and I are working to improve but are starting from nothing.

Anyways we hope to be there by the end of November but it might be early December. Are there any families living in Alicante with around a 7 year old girl that speaks some English that would like to plan play dates ?

My daughter will go to school in Spanish but I’m hoping to help her connect with other English speaking children

Whats happening this week

Hey all!

I am in alicante the next few days and wanted to ask if there are some nice events to go to. Will there be anything for the holiday tomorrow?

Any other recs like art museums etc?

What beaches are recommended? And which are rather avoided? Are any boating tours or visits to islands worth it?

Are there any nice bars or similar where we can dance that are open during the week as well?

Is the university campus worth a visit?

Ayuda/Help Housing Recommendations For Student

Hello!

I will move to Spain from Sweden & I will be studying in Alicante in January (2026) - May and then again through September to January (2027). Where’s the best way to look for housing? I understand that an apartment for myself basically will be impossible for €400-€700, so I think the best way is to rent a room through these dates.

I’ll be studying at the Universidad de Alicante & what I can see the best spot for walking distance to the school is San Vincente, but it doesn’t matter to me. I’m just wandering if it’s better to check with locals through facebook, or websites to avoid scams etc.

Thankful for the help.

Touristic Tapas Bar Info Please

Hello! I have friends visiting me in the small inland town I live in. Tomorrow I want to take them into Alicante and while there have lunch at a tapas place in the centre of town that I visited a few years ago. It was about 15 mins walk from the marina. The waiters walked round with trays of tapas and you paid according to the number of toothpicks. I know it's not authentic but last night we had the most authentic experience in my small town which I am so proud that my friends got to experience. Tomorrow I want them to have a proper tourist experience. Can anyone tell me the name of the bar please?

Housing demonstrations

I’m seeing lots on the news about the protests in Spain about the housing crisis

How is this affecting Alicante? I believe there may be some peaceful demonstrations in one of the squares near the city centre?

It’s not putting us off or upcoming visit as we actually feel these kind of issues do need to be raised. Personally when we go away, we generally stay in hotels and have never and would never stay in an Airbnb because believe they are often the Root cause of problems like this. And other issues I have with them.

What is housing like for locals in Alcante and what are the views on Airbnb and the restrictions?

Alicante 7 days December trip (no beach) recommendations?

Hi does anyone have any recommendations for an itinerary assuming we won't swim. Could we Valencia/Murcia perhaps along with the smaller coastal towns? What would you recommend? Thanks :)

Torreaveija's beaches

I've been in Torrevieja for a couple days and I'm a bit confused by the beach experience here.

There's no breeze, no shade, it's hotter than everywhere else in town.

But it's always packed with people walking along the promenade.

I'm visiting from the UK where you normally go to the beach to cool off on hot days.

What am I missing?

Market

I’m currently spending my vacation not far from Torrevieja. Does anyone know if the friday market will go as usual friday 9.10? Just saw that this is a national holiday date. Also, what about the buses, will they transport people?
