Congrats! I remember some of your posts, great you didn’t have to redo the medical after all.

Thank you! Yes very glad about that :)

Hi! Biggest congrats!!!!!! I'm so glad to see 309 grants finally coming along 🥳 Just wondering, are you in Aus with the normal 3-month ETA? Was it easy to get? We applied for our 309 in August 2025 and were thinking about visiting family some time next year!

1

u/suggestednameinsane Sponsor > 309 (US based) 4d ago

We also applied in Aug 2025 and got the ETA easily in June this year.

1

u/Ambitious-Fortune-10 USA > 309/820 (planning) 4d ago

Yes just the normal 3 month ETA and it was super easy! Had it in my inbox a few hours after applying. I also entered Australia on it twice while the 309 was in process with no issues 😊

u/travelingwhilestupid AU 3d ago

Congratulations! This should not take more than a year.

My Costa Rican husband just got his approved today too!

1

u/YVRKBLTXL 1d ago

Congrats! Was that also a 309? When did he lodge it?

2

u/Basic_Ad_3992 309 1d ago

Yeah, double grant 309/100. Lodged May 2024.

1

u/BeautifulAble4136 1d ago

What are the odds of that, there’s only about 700 ticos in Australia. Congrats

1

u/Basic_Ad_3992 309 1d ago

So odd!! We live in nyc and I’ve never even met another tico here.

309 granted today!! 🥳

DOL: 27 June 2025

RFI: 29 Jan 2026 (police checks, medical exam, copy of registered relationship certificate because we only uploaded the receipt of application at the time, copy of applicant's birth certificate)

DOG: 07 Oct 2026 (~14 months)

Sponsor: Australian citizen

Applicant: Italian

Hoping for everyone to get their visas soon! 🙏

2

u/sebnied AT > 309/100 (applied) 8d ago

That’s great! Did you apply from Italy?

2

u/Gloomy_Prior7706 8d ago

Thank you! My partner was offshore in Italy when the application was lodged but this was done through our migration agent located in Brisbane 😊

2

u/YVRKBLTXL 8d ago

Was your partner onshore when it was granted? Ie on a BVA or visitor visa?

2

u/Gloomy_Prior7706 8d ago

No he was offshore, but hoping he can come visit this summer!

2

u/travelingwhilestupid AU 3d ago

He can come... visit?

1

u/sebnied AT > 309/100 (applied) 8d ago edited 8d ago

Great! I’m an Italian citizen as well but we applied from Austria where we currently live. We are hoping to move to Brisbane soon, when the visa gets approved ;)

2

u/Gloomy_Prior7706 8d ago

I see! Hopefully it means your visa will be coming soon then, rooting for you two😊🙏!!

u/travelingwhilestupid AU 3d ago edited 3d ago

Congratulations! This should not take more than a year. Did you file off-shore? I gather 309 is off-shore

1

u/YVRKBLTXL 8d ago

Congrats! Was there priority processing for some reason or just a normal application?

1

u/Gloomy_Prior7706 8d ago

Thank you! No it was just a normal application (considering the processing times we were also surprised it went relatively quickly)

For what its worth we did use a migration agent who helped us frontload our application and made sure our information was organised neatly so that might've factored into it?

1

u/trimassie 417 > 500 > 485 > 820 7d ago

Congrats fellow Italian! I got my 820 roughly 1 month ago.

2

u/Gloomy_Prior7706 7d ago

Thank you so much! And congrats to you too 🥳🥳

6

u/NervousSink5730 8d ago

820 granted!!

Reading these threads helped me a lot while waiting, so thought I’d share too. Yours is coming!

DOL: 7 April 2025
RFI: 28 Sept 2026 (they requested new AFP check, weirdly only for the sponsor, not me the applicant)
DOG: 6 Oct 2026

While waiting, I updated new evidence every 3-4 months and applied a BVB through the urgent web form (a family member passed away), which was granted in just one day with 5 years validity.

I guess now I can breathe for a quick minute, before starting the whole process again for the 801. 🤣

2

u/Any_Pickle4444 8d ago

Congrats!

2

u/spoonaddict UK > 651 > 820/801 (applied) 8d ago

Great news and happy for you! You've just reminded me to update my updated AFP!

1

u/NervousSink5730 8d ago

Thanks! Hope you get yours soon too, and yes, update that AFP!

1

u/ElMonoCariBlanco 482 > resigned job > working on 820/801 application 4d ago

Congrats!!

Mind sharing a bit more of your relationship, years together at time of lodgement, married, kids, etc?

I applied for 820 on April 22, 2025. I feel my turn is close. I'm hoping for a double grant 🙈 about 7 years together, 3 years living together at time of lodgement

Cheers

u/vagabond_dreams1 8d ago

801 granted today! It feels like a huge weight off my shoulders, and having been recently laid off, it'll be nice to not constantly explain what a partner visa is and what work rights I have to prospective employers/HR teams.

I submitted everything myself and never received an RFI. I am American, and my partner is a dual Aussie-Canadian.

820 Lodged: 15 June 2024

820 Granted: 21 September 2025

801 Lodged: 6 July 2026

801 Granted: 7 October 2026

309/100 double grant Received

Application submitted: March 2025 (self, no immigration service used)

S56 Home affairs requested more info: April 14th 2026

309/100 double grant received: October 1st 2026

Me and my wife both were Indian citizens. My wife came here for Masters in 2017, finished her qualifying exams for Pharmcist job, by then she got her Citizenship (~2023). I did Masters, worked two years, then PhD in the US (2016-2025). We both were in long distance relationship since 2019-2025, got married in 2021.

We applied for 309/100 in March 2025 just few months before PhD defense. Had to apply the offshore one as I was in the US doing PhD.

I also applied for a Temporary research acitivity visa subclass 408 in July 2025 - as I got a job as Postdoc (they nominated with a letter) but last year there was huge delay, so I came to Australia in Sept 2025 originally on Tourist visa to live with my wife. Then my Temporary Research activity visa approval which came in - February 2026 after ~7-months waiting and I started working immediately. Submitted all documents since the application was launched untill the recent Tax return document with my wife’s taxable income. Finally got the double grant today. I read about double grant but I wasn’t really thinking that we would get it. The Reddit space has been helpfull. Happy to answer any questions.

The s56 request for more info was for submitting updated police background checks from USA as the original ones I submitted were expired

u/suggestednameinsane Sponsor > 309 (US based) 13d ago

So nice to see some grants - we applied in August 2025 so would still be a few months off based on your timeline but seeing some movement gives me hope. thanks for sharing your good news and congrats!!

820 granted 🎉

  • DOL: 01/04/2025
  • RFI: 23/09/2026 (updated AFP cert + relationship evidence for last 6 months) [we got lazy and didn't update this year]
(responded after 3 days, pressed the confirm evidence provided button)

  • DOG: 01/10/2026 (~18 months)

Been together 6 years, but we started out as LDR and have only lived together for 2 years + so far ~

I'm looking forward to submitting more evidence in another 6 ish months for the 801 😅😅

hoping everyone gets their visa sooner 🌸

1

u/freakyangel222 13d ago

What visa did you have prior? CONGRATS!!🥂

1

u/decafAndNonDairy 462 > 820 13d ago

Thanks! I was on the WHV before~
Having started as LDR, we wanted to experience living together first and not have the pressure to marry; and thankfully I was eligible for the WHV.

I am so fucking happy. OMG!

DOL: 02 Nov 2024

RFI: 19 Aug 2026

Medical clearance: 26 Sep 2026

DOG: 02 Oct 2026

I had two issues that I felt were complicating factors, but I'm so glad that they didn't pose any issues. The first was that I have a history of hospitalisations as a result of mental health issues. This didn't pose a problem. The second was that I was charged overseas for participating in a Pride Parade, and the trial is still ongoing. This also didn't pose a problem.

I am so beyond happy that this ordeal is over, and that the grant came through so fast after the RFI/medical clearance. It's such a relief.

Good luck, everyone!

u/SaltAcidFatHeat 14d ago

Did you have nothing but silence for almost 19 months?

1

u/Straight_Pop427 Saudi > 500 > 820 > 801 (planning) 13d ago

Complete silence until 18 August, when they requested new medicals. On 19 August, they sent an RFI asking for a Form 80, an AFP certificate, more pictures, evidence of a name change (I just sent them my marriage certificate) and a letter clarifying the length of time I have lived in two countries.

I think the last bit was just to see if I exceeded 12 months, but I didn't, so there were no further requests.

2

u/travelingwhilestupid AU 3d ago

Congratulations! This should not take more than a year. Did you arrive on a student visa and then meet your partner?

u/Straight_Pop427 Saudi > 500 > 820 > 801 (planning) 3d ago

Quick question: did you get a letter from the DHA inviting you to apply?

2

u/YumiiZheng USA > 462 > 408 > 820 > 801 (Granted!!) 2d ago

Yes I did! Exactly two years from the day I applied for the 820.

2

u/Arcadian_Stag 11d ago

Howdy, I am sponsoring my girlfriends 820 partner visa application, we are filling out my sponsor application and it asks if I have any outstanding debts to the government. I am paying off my HECS debt from uni, so I need to declare that or just tick no?

2

u/Straight_Pop427 Saudi > 500 > 820 > 801 (planning) 11d ago

My wife is paying off her HECS debt, and no, we didn't declare it. It only applies to outstanding fines, overdue tax bills, etc. As long as you're repaying your HECS debt in line with your income threshold, I don't think you need to declare anything.

1

u/Any_Pickle4444 13d ago

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone who applied for 820 in Jan 2025 has received their grant yet?

I got an s56 request at the end of July asking for both overseas and Australian police checks. I uploaded everything on 1 August, but still haven’t heard anything 😭

It’s now been 2 months since I submitted the s56 documents, so just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat or has been granted after submitting the police checks?

Would love to hear your timelines if you’re a Jan 2025 applicant! 🙏 Thank you!

1

u/suggestednameinsane Sponsor > 309 (US based) 13d ago

at the bottom of this thread someone who lodged in April reports receiving theirs (RFI in September)

1

u/WillingTheory 8d ago

Lodged in February 2025 and nothing. We got an RFI for police check in September and havent heard back since.

1

u/Otherwise_Life1555 6d ago

Same exact boat as you. August RFI uploaded everything early Sept still waiting

u/Substantial-End-9085 2d ago

How long does it take to be granted a bridging visa after you lodge partner visa application?

1

u/BigBeef6911 5h ago

I'm trying to make sure everything is done by the book but very confused that so many people have done the 651 to 820 route, while others say the 651 will be refused if you state applying for an 820 is the reason for entry. I'm aware this is a route that is likely on its way out very soon, so was hoping to do it quickly. I'm Irish (stable, remote, high-earning job) with an unexpectedly pregnant Australian partner. I would absolutely hate to have to be separated from her at any point during the process of pregnancy, birth or the child's first years.

My question for those who went this route is when applying for the initial 651, in the "purpose of stay, give details" field, did you mention the intent to apply for an 820? Is there some unwritten precedent that you don't mention it, or does not mentioning it lead to problems when attempting to apply for the 820?

Again, I'm not trying to skirt rules, I'm just trying to figure out what I'm actually supposed to do (other than go back in time and not get my amazing Australian partner pregnant).

I will be consulting a lawyer but in the meantime I don't know how long I have before the "no further stay" clause gets added to 651 evisas.
