I'm so pleased with myself that I possibly have predicted (assuming we can 'trust' what Maisiri says) at least two of the major plot points regarding the outcome of the Beauchamp story:

1)Julia can't time travel, only those with Beauchamp blood can time travel.

Julia managed it the first time because she was pregnant with William and therefore had 'Beauchamp blood' temporarily. Maisiri seemed to confirm she can't travel by saying she didn't have the power or whatever the exact phrase was.

2)Brian and Ellen adopt baby Beauchamp: William Beauchamp is Jamie's older brother Willie (who died of smallpox at age 11 😥).

Maisiri possibly confirmed this tonight by talking about a baby with 2 mothers (Julia and Ellen) and 3 fathers (Henry and Simon and Brian). Perhaps Ellen will have a still birth/their baby will die young, and then they adopt J&H's baby.

This would tie in nicely with the little speech Brian made to William about always being his "friend" (or whatever it was exactly) on the night he was born.

It would also make sense with what Matt Roberts said last season about William, something like "fans will lose their minds when they figure out who the baby is". It's bitter-sweet, the brother Claire never knew she had and the brother Jamie idolised so much are the same person 🥹

44

u/ShubberyQuest 20d ago

That’s why I dislike Matt Roberts’ storytelling: He always wants to shock the fans. I want a story for a story-sake - not “Look how clever I am!” storytelling.

Yes I think this is where it’s going too! I really feel for Julia though. It’s crushing to realize that you’re truly stuck and will never see Claire (and possibly Henry) again.

I wonder what happens to Henry and Julia. I hope they can escape and live together somehow but I don’t think it’s possible :/

29

u/Far-Piano-4577 20d ago

I think that they may go to France. The intro has scenes of what I presume to be the French court so I wonder if Julia and Henry go there to escape Lord Lovat

Yeh, I don't see their story ending well unfortunately. Im enjoying their story much more than Brian/Ellen's, but it's lot of grief, pain, and trauma, and we all know that, one way or another, it will end in sadness.

The only reason I can see where William would be adopted by Brian and Ellen is if Julia and Henry died. If they escaped, then why would William be adopted? Cos we know they arent gonna make it back to Claire. And they would have to adopt him when he was still young enough not to remember/still young enough to pass off as their own child (IMO, basically under 2, max 3).

We'll have to watch and see if William shows any sign of red hair 👀. I feel like we haven't seen his head since he was born.

u/ContactNeither7319 20d ago

You know I don't know what to make of Mairisi's prophecies. I'm not saying that she is not seeing future events. I think she is seeing glimpses for sure. And some of her glimpses are more clearer than others. Prophecies in general have a habit of being partially true and often we believe them because we want to believe them and are just seeing what we want to see.

It's possible that in to order to protect William he is temporarily given to another couple. But what if it's not Brian and Ellen but a completely different couple. It doesn't change the prophecy.

As far as Julia and time traveling goes. What if it was more about not having a gemstone than not having the gene. Mairisi only said she didn't have the power and that could be either the gene or gemstone. Also, maybe Mairisi knows that Julia's daughter Claire is destined to be something more than normal. And if Julia goes back to the future it might affect Claire not achieving this. I think Mairisi might have not been telling all the truth with Julia on not having the power to travel.

One more thought. What if William cannot travel. We are assuming he can because of what Mairisi said. But what if the reason Mairisi might not be telling Julia the whole truth of her vision has nothing to do with changing Claire's path. But rather to keep Julia here in this time because William can't travel and will need his mother.

Lots of what ifs still.

I'm not trying to rain on your parade or crush your dreams. I'm just naturally skeptical and tend to question everything. Please don't take my what ifs has trying to say you are wrong. I am doing that. Your theories have a lot of merit and are very good theories. And very well may be correct.👍 🙂

9

u/robinsond2020 I am NOT bloody sorry! 20d ago

As far as Julia and time traveling goes. What if it was more about not having a gemstone than not having the gene. Mairisi only said she didn't have the power and that could be either the gene or gemstone.

True, but Julia had essentially asked her "how does it work, why didn't it work for me? What can I do to make it work next time?" And Maisiri replied "you don't have to worry, it won't work for you". Maisiri would've said so if a gem was the problem cos she knew that that's what Julia was asking

One more thought. What if William cannot travel. We are assuming he can because of what Mairisi said. But what if the reason Mairisi might not be telling Julia the whole truth of her vision has nothing to do with changing Claire's path. But rather to keep Julia here in this time because William can't travel and will need his mother

Cos why would Maisiri lie to Julia to keep Julia here, if Julia had asked "What can do I do to ensure that I stay here"?

I'm not trying to rain on your parade or crush your dreams. I'm just naturally skeptical and tend to question everything. Please don't take my what ifs has trying to say you are wrong. I am doing that. Your theories have a lot of merit and are very good theories. And very well may be correct.👍 🙂

No worries, I'm open to other ideas ahahah. I do agree that we can't necessarily take everything Maisiri says 100% at face value.

10

u/ContactNeither7319 20d ago

Well with regards to what Mairisi said to Julia about why she couldn't travel. I just feel Mairisi was holding back information. She could have mentioned gemstones and it's in your blood, that's required to travel. But she just said you don't have the power.

Maybe her reason to keep Julia here is because William can't travel. If Julia thinks she can travel and later finds out William can't do think she would try to get back to Claire and leave William in the past? That be a horrible choice to have to make. Also what if she never finds out William can't travel and tries but only now she has gemstones and only she travels and William is left behind. And Mairisi told a prophecy about William. He might be in danger because of it and he might need his mom to protect him.

Of course this is all me just thinking out loud. I'm glad you didn't take my comments as a critique. 😇

I'm just skeptical of Mairisi's motives/reasons for saying what she says. She is not stupid. It can be dangerous to be a seer. Tell a client something they don't want to hear or something that they do want to hear that doesn't come true, could get her killed.

But keep the theories coming. I love hearing them and It's fun to talk about them. 🙂

14

u/Ok_Dig8008 20d ago

I agree that Maisri’s predictions are a bit off-centre. One example is when she says that Claire is being looked after by a father figure. Julia assumes it’s Henry, but it’s actually Uncle Lamb. We only know that because we know Claire’s story otherwise, we’d probably assume it was Henry too. So I don’t think Maisri’s predictions are necessarily as straightforward or literal as they first seem.

8

u/ContactNeither7319 20d ago

Here's why I am skeptical of what Mairisi is saying. She's a seer or prophet. Their prophecies tend to be vague. It's like reading your horoscope. So we see what we want to see and make lots of assumptions and convince ourselves that, that is what it means. When in reality it can mean anything and sometimes it means nothing.

Like the one about William having 2 mothers and 3 fathers. It's easy to say it means Ellen and Brian will somehow become his parents. But what if it is a different couple? It's still true 2 moms and 3 dads.

I'm not saying I think people are wrong to think this prophecy is referring to Brian and Ellen. It could very well be what happens.

But the skeptic in me says, show me. I swear I'm not from nor have I ever been to the state of Missouri. But I need more information to believe anything on face value from a seer.

12

u/Ok_Dig8008 20d ago

A common thread in outlander is children not being brought up by their real parents Claire, Roger, Faith, and so on. Why? Why are these kids parents taken away from them and being raised by others? So it sounds like William will have the same fate but I need to know why??

5

u/ContactNeither7319 20d ago

Your right it did seem to happen a lot in Outlander. Maybe they are trying to emphasize that it takes a village to raise a child or family can be more than just blood. I suppose that trend will continue even with the show being titled blood of my blood.

It's not a bad thing but it can become redundant and confusing as hell, especially if it is over done. Soon we'll need charts with cross reference lines to figure out who is who and where they come from if this keeps up.

Man my living room wall better not get turned into a police whiteboard with names and pictures of suspects and lots of string. First my cats would destroy it. And second my family would hate me.

Yeah, now I want to know why this is?

I think you are spot on with the 2 mothers / 3 fathers thing. I’m wondering if they fake a pregnancy for Ellen though in order to get married and then pass William off as their own child.

15

u/robinsond2020 I am NOT bloody sorry! 20d ago

Perhaps (sadly) a still birth or infant death?

Brian did make a very pointed comment about trying to get her pregnant last ep

5

u/Middle-Exercise5667 20d ago

this is totally true. I believe that that’s awesome thinking.

17

u/jesushx 20d ago

I’ve also wondered if Willie didn’t die so much as maybe they return to get him and that’s when he is 11 and they try again to get to Claire.

I mean they could’ve tried a bunch of times and ended up elsewhere , or a part of me wonders if ( maybe in a future movie) they arrive to Clair but they are young and she is old…

6

u/robinsond2020 I am NOT bloody sorry! 19d ago

It's definitely a possibility that more TT might solve the Beauchamp's story.

Although I don't think they'd end up where Claire is old, because that would mean they're continuing Claire's story. Claire's story is supposed to be finished. I don't think I want them to meet old Claire cos then I'd want know what happened - what happened in the intervening years, what happened to Jamie, what happened to Brianna etc

5

u/jesushx 19d ago

They could arrive to her right after the mountain and boom you'd know the story up to then...

Im not saying they will do this, or anything. But they can

I just can't see investing in this story without any hope. It's sooo bleak. So maybe my mind reaches for straws...

6

u/BytheSea2323 20d ago

OK, so I just asked that question about Julia being told by Masiri she can't travel - I was like "But she DID travel already" (but also, had her wedding ring/gemstone) but you think it's different now that they baby isn't inside her still?

OK, I guess that could make sense. I mean we know why she didn't go thorugh this time (no gem) and Henry did (gem in the dagger in his chest) but being told she CAN'T travel was confusing me... maybe you're right about why...

Hmmm... we shall see! I can't imagine she stays there longer than she can figure out how to try again!

6

u/robinsond2020 I am NOT bloody sorry! 19d ago

This is a copy&paste of part of a comment I made last week about the gemstone thing (operating on the assumption that Julia can't TT and William can):

Whilst they're not gonna ditch the idea of needing gemstones completely, as far as I am aware, there hasn't been any confirmation that you definitely, 100% need a gemstone to travel. If the theory about the Beauchamps and not the Moristons having the TT gene is true, then there hasn't been any on-screen example of someone with the TT gene attempting to travel without a gem. Perhaps it makes it easier/safer with a gem, rather than a gem being absolutely necessary.

And the reason the TT didn't work at first this ep is cos neither Henry/William (the TTs) touched the stone themselves/touched a TT who touched the stone. Unlike the Mackenzies in 511 (who all had their hands on top of each other and would've all touched their skin to the stone), only Julia touched the stone at first this ep. William (a TT) was being held by Julia (a non TT), so he couldn't travel. And Henry was holding her wrist, so he didn't actually touch his skin to the stone until after he had been stabbed/acquired a gem, making it look like the issue was the lack of a gem when it wasn't.

It's possible if Henry had touched it prior to being stabbed, he still might've gone through.

Im sorry but i didnt read the books or anything, why does the baby have to be adopted? I mean, it has parents...

7

u/robinsond2020 I am NOT bloody sorry! 20d ago

The baby doesn't have to be adopted.

My theory on the baby being adopted is because I reckon the baby WON'T have parents. Brian and Ellen adopting William is contingent on Julia and Henry dying.

3

u/Serious-Local-3600 19d ago

Hmm but even with Julia gone, the baby's father is officially Simon. No way is he going to let his heir be adopted by his bastard son and the prophecy wiped 🤔

4

u/visciousveg 19d ago

Simon may find out the truth about his “son”

3

u/robinsond2020 I am NOT bloody sorry! 19d ago

Yes, well they would also need to be able to "break free" from Simon first, even before they died. Simon's not gonna let them take William, regardless of whether Julia is dead. So in order for Brian and Ellen to adopt him, that would mean Julia and Henry have somehow escaped from Simon

→ More replies (2)

7

u/quiteunicorn 20d ago

It’s because it’s a known fact that Claire doesn’t have any siblings. She also grew up without parents so we know Julia and/or Henry doesn’t reunite without. But what happens with baby William/Simon? I guess he can stay in the past with his mother and we’ll just never know his fate but because the timeline of his birth matches up so closely to the birth of Brian and Ellen’s first child, who’s also named William, there’s a lot of speculation

4

u/demaandronk 19d ago

But if her parents stay behind in another time and they dont see eachother again, she wouldnt ever know she had a sibling. The baby doesnt need to be adopted. All these theories seem so farfetched. Henry can travel, he wants to go back, but people want to kill him. Wouldnt it just make more sense he finds Julia and flees with her and the baby? I mean the world was as big then as it is now, they could just go to another place where no one knows them?

I knew they were going to twist the knife some way by having uncle lamb and Claire feel so close but so far from Henry.
Of course they just miss the picture of Henry in the newspaper before boarding their boat to the Middle East 😭 Can’t stop thinking about it 😔

Overall less torture porn this episode (so far)!

Oh damn that’s heartbreaking news for Julia :( So a lot of you were right, she couldn’t travel, just the baby could. She can never go back to Claire and the future. 😢 It’s crushing to see her realize that.

I enjoyed this episode. 😊

Mrs Graham kicks arse! She is awesome! I love her.❤️

I am not sure what to believe with Mairisi. She might not be telling the whole truth to Julia about whether she can travel. Just like she worded her answer to Lord Lovett so vaguely almost as if she didn't want to say the plain truth. We will have to keep our eyes on her. I do think she is trying to help Julia though.

But Julia, man my heart breaks for her.

10

u/WhereIsMyMind37 19d ago

I wonder if Mrs. Graham has some family connections to Mairisi as she stated that her grandmother and great grandmother read tea leaves. It wouldn't surprise me.

5

I was wondering the same thing. It's a possibility. The thing is I don't know if we will ever find out if she is. I think we will not see Mrs Graham again now that Henry is heading back through the stones.

6

u/robinsond2020 I am NOT bloody sorry! 19d ago

If she 'accidentally' got pregnant again, then, she might be able to TT.

But I think it would be pretty reckless if they planned to get her pregnant again, for the sole purpose of allowing Julia to travel. What if it doesn't work? They barely understand how the whole thing works anyway. They can theorise, but I don't think they'd ever be able to confirm that being pregnant with William was definitely the cause of Julia's TT. There are so many unknowns.

9

u/CheyLomm 19d ago

It doesn't matter if it's accidental or not.
It's still very likely that a young couple in love, that was proven to be fertile (they conceived at least twice), will have a lot of sex in however many years they have left together, and will conconceive another child. Birth control was not precisely the 18th century's forte. There's not always "convenient" access to a herb that solves every problem... and they don't seem like people who would WANT to "solve" the problem.

And it might be reckless to PLAN it, but if you were a parent trying to get back to your child, wouldn't you try every possible solution? If it didn't work out, nothing would change. Except they'd have one more child and be stuck in the same century.

A lot of people plan to have a child so its genes/blood/whatever can save another sick child. The mother could die in childbirth, or both the mother and the child... but they STILL try, because they want their other kid to live. I think Henry and Julia would probably try anything to get back to Claire, if they come to realize her pregnancy was a factor in the TT.

I wasn't sure the seer was telling the truth though. But I suppose that makes sense

19

u/YOYOitsMEDRup Slàinte. 20d ago

Yeah, I'm not sure what the seer really said.

It may not be that Julia CAN'T - and was just that she WON'T again. There's a big difference in the two. I want to pay close attention to everything Maisiri said this episode when I watch it again before Ep 3 - because I definitely didn't catch it all closely enough the first time

2

u/Dragon-Sky 18d ago

Yes, a lot was purposely obtuse I think

12

u/Own-Thing-6129 20d ago

Well, the seer was spot on about Claire, tho, in the end.

6

u/tara_abernathy 19d ago

The witch has been shown to lie about things though so I wouldn't completely discount Julia being able to travel

2

u/Joliedee 19d ago

I thought we concluded that Julia didn’t have a gemstone and therefore couldn’t time travel. On another thread. Not literally “we.”

If the baby could travel, seems like the baby may’ve gone through the last time

4

u/JaderMcDanersStan RUIN ME 19d ago edited 19d ago

It’s both - in the premiere, they couldn’t travel because of no gemstones. But people have speculated in the season 1 finale that Julia might not be able to travel (even if she had a gemstone) in general; the only reason she came through the first time was because she was pregnant with a the baby who could travel.

Based on what Maisri said, I think that speculation was right. Julia does not have the time travel gene & and can’t travel herself regardless of whether she has a gemstone.

3

u/Joliedee 19d ago

I’m not 100% convinced, but it’ll be fun to see how it plays out.

In the meantime, it’s a good device to keep her from traveling back in time, maybe to the wrong time, and Henry missing her when he gets back to 1715

2

u/Outside-Gold9905 19d ago

Why would'nt Julia be able to travel, she went through once already. She might just need a gem.

3

u/JaderMcDanersStan RUIN ME 19d ago

The theory is she travelled because she was pregnant with a baby who has the travelling gene (and she had a gem then). But it was the baby who could travel, not her. Now that the baby is outside her tummy, she cannot travel. That’s what Maisri confirmed - she does not have the travelling gene/power

That’s at least the speculation and it explains how she could travel if she does not have the gene/power (what Maisri told her)

66

u/MotherFawker99 20d ago

Julia is so much better at strategizing and playing the game than Claire was in my opinion. I know people have a problem with Julia and Henry acclimating to the past too quickly but I like to believe they are just better liars! Claire couldn’t stop herself from running her mouth and intervening in all kinds of nonsense, Julia and Henry are pretty much only concerned with getting back to one another.

59

u/ContactNeither7319 20d ago

Julia is from the previous generation. Women's status and roles didn't really change that much from the 1700s to the early 1900s. Claire is from a generation that women started to gain more independence and status. So it was easier for Julia to hold her tongue. Not so much for Claire. She is used to speaking her mind. If I showed up in the 1770s I would have probably been slapped about vigorously after my first sentence. I probably won't have lasted a week.

31

u/oakenfairy Ye Sassenach witch! 20d ago

This! Not to mention her nontraditional upbringing with Uncle Lamb. She was raised by a globe trotting bachelor archaeologist, not someone who knew how to raise a proper young lady of the time. Claire was a rare enigma even among her generation.

42

u/Dragon-Sky 20d ago

Claire was a generation ahead of Julia, was raised without a mother, and had a very unusual childhood. I would expect Claire to be more outspoken than Julia

Yeh, that was an interesting choice, especially for this series.

An unknown character, who didn't make an appearance in the main series/wasn't even mentioned in the main series, who also happens to be English, and a person of colour, and they seem to be setting up as a love interest for Murtagh.

I wonder if she is another time traveller? Could be fun, I look forward to it. Though, knowing Outlander's track record (and knowing Murtagh's future), it probably wont be a happy ending.

17

u/quiteunicorn 20d ago

Yeah, there’s has to be some sort of connection to the “future”( the Outlander years) for them to have the only person of color shown be connected to Jocasta

12

u/Able-Ad1381 20d ago

I was almost thinking that Grace may be Phaedre's mother and Murtagh the unbeknownst father since they move to the colonies? I hope not but they do weird connections on this show.

12

The show didn't reveal who Phaedre's dad was --- but I'm pretty sure the book did. Wasn't it Hector, Jocasta's husband

Murtaugh got over Brian's betrayal with Ellen pretty quickly for that to have been what led him to become the older, more surly and curmudgeonly Murtaugh. It's clear he's smitten with Grace, so I'm guessing the relationship goes bad some way and she is at the real root of why Murtaugh becomes grumpy

6

I don't expect there to be an actual romantic relationship between them in the prequel --- I think Jocasta's crush is as far as it'll go and it was only later in life in Outlander that they were ever in a relationship.

How sad to think Lamb only needed to pause and look at a newspaper, but it fits the story and felt natural that he and Claire left elsewhere.

The shot of Ellen in the Chapel window....from the first glimpse of it in the trailer, it has always reminded me of the image of Claire from S7 opening the shutters ----- was the candlestick she threw and then kind of kicked at after Dougal and Collum left the candlestick Claire's ring was later made of? It wasn't super close up, but it made me think of that.

It's good to see Brian become more forward and step up - turn into a leader amongst the Frasers

By season's end we'll have Ellen trading back the contract stating her as owner of the Leoch parcel land for the Lallybroch one...

I'm gonna want to rewatch to listen to all Maisiri said again. Obviously the roses referring to Jacobites- but if I'm not mistaken she phrased it as "if he stays as last in your line, he'll one day be king" --- well, he's not going to stay considered that, so she's ultimately saying the prophecy is inconsequential, she's just smart enough to not spell it out to Lovat that way and keeps letting him think what he wants. That's what I take from all that anyway---- especially the way Maisri glanced at Julia after

Leticia has to lose her pregnancy -- it's way too early for Hamish ( side note - it'd be interesting to see the conversation between Colum and Dougal for how their arrangement was agreed to ---- but the prequel likely will never go anywhere near that far to cover that timeframe)

I called it when I read S2 press - new servant at Leathers = Seema - and she's gonna be telling Julia she had sex with Henry....

21

u/Able-Ad1381 20d ago

Ellen and Brian's scenes also reminded me of how much Jamie is like both of his parents!

12

u/wheeler1432 They say I’m a witch. 20d ago

I thought it was way too early for Hamish, too, but I saw Collum and Dougal exchange a look.

29

u/YOYOitsMEDRup Slàinte. 20d ago

Hamish was like 7 when Jamie's 23 in S1 Outlander. It can't be Hamish. I'm thinking Leticia has years of multiple miscarriages and she and Colum keep trying for awhile until finally they accept the hard truth they can't be successful, and then approach Dougal.

I took the glance as more of a ..."don't get any ideas" kind of message from Colum to Dougal. A way to say "You won't take over like you want because I've got a kid that's going to be my heir, you're out of luck" kind of message.

2

u/too_too2 18d ago

but (according to Claire) Colum should be sterile, and not able to get his wife pregnant at all, rather than having repeat losses. I think.

4

u/YOYOitsMEDRup Slàinte. 18d ago

She did think that. Maybe that's a side effect that developed over time but here he's still young enough and the Letraec disease isn't as set-in enough they did have one successful conception that just didn't go full-term, but as years passed they just never could conceive again? I"ll admit I have no medical knowledge if sterility is an all at once thing or a gradual worsening progression?

Or maybe it's more of a false alarm on her part and she just thinks she is pregnant because she's late but won't actually be?

10

u/jesushx 20d ago

Because a boy baby would be a rival to Dougal inheriting the lairdship. He’d come before Dougal.

Maybe the seer was saying that to protect Julia "if he stays as last in your line" ie, don't have any more babies!

5

u/YOYOitsMEDRup Slàinte. 18d ago

Hadn't considered that! Maisri does seem clued in to the fact the baby's not actually his (though she's not said as much) and does seem to feel some sort of empathy for Julia's predicament. Maybe Julia picked up on Maisri's phrasing and can convince Lovat they can't risk another child interfering. There's only so many ways she'll be able to keep avoiding his bed -

4

u/robinsond2020 I am NOT bloody sorry! 20d ago

Yes, I'll have to rewatch the bits with Maisiri again to catch it all.

I have written a comment here about the small bits I DID manage to catch (mainly I think baby Beauchamp and Jamie's brother Willie are the same person), but I didn't quite catch all the other prediction stuff so don't know how that fits in.

7

u/YOYOitsMEDRup Slàinte. 20d ago

I watched this AM - Maisiri said something about 2 mothers and 3 fathers I was confused by ---That's the part I want to hear again.

5

u/BytheSea2323 20d ago

That makes sense to me if Baby William ends up with Ellen & Brian and not Julia & Henry... 2 mothers then the 3rd 'father' was Lovett, unfortunately

4

u/ContactNeither7319 20d ago

It's vague though. I think we need to be careful assuming this means Ellen and Brian. It could refer to a different couple and still be 2 moms and 3 dads.

4

u/CheyLomm 20d ago

It makes no sense that Julia and Henry would leave their child with Ellen and Brian... Or that they'd die. They can just move somewhere else. It would be the most intelligent thing to do. Why on earth would they stay anywhere near Simon?

3

u/robinsond2020 I am NOT bloody sorry! 20d ago edited 20d ago

I can't think of any reason that it would "make no sense that they'd die", people die all the time, it's not hard to die.

And in regards to staying near Lovat, it would be dangerous to stay with near him, yes. But it might also be dangerous to move away - they are in a foreign time, and they have friends in the highlands. If they can manage to divorce/annul the marriage or whatever, or come to some sort of 'agreement' with him...sort of a "better the devil you know" situation.

If Lovat/the Grants/the Beauchamps just meet on neutral ground and have a chance to explain things (I'm sure Ned would be helpful there)...Julia and Henry haven't done anything wrong, there would be no 'moral' justification to seek revenge as Julia/Henry arent at fault for anything.

13

u/CheyLomm 20d ago edited 20d ago

It makes no sense story-wise, obviously.

You create a prequel show where we already know Jamie's parents both die relatively young. They don't get to grow old together. They lose a child at an early age. Every aspect is sad and depressing.

Then the writers give us another couple to care about... One whose future we don't know about. Only to doom them as well? Why on earth would anybody invest in this story?

That is what makes no sense. And to create another child for them, who will only live 11 years, and with other people as parents? Ridiculous.

I also believe your solution of sitting down with Simon Fraser, of all people, to explain to him that his wife is not his wife and his son is not his son, and he should not kill off Julia for lying to him is... Not plausible.

→ More replies (5)

4

u/JaderMcDanersStan RUIN ME 20d ago

I don't think Simon would allow them to take the baby away though. He thinks the baby is his son and he would be enraged to find out he was fooled, he'd probably kill them for that.

I do think the baby ends up with Ellen and Brian too.

Maisri said “MARK ME” !!!!!!! Are we bringing the Bonnie Prince back into this crazy town saga?? I’m throwing out the Baby William=Charles Stewart=King in Prophecy theory now. My 2nd theory is that Henry makes it back and is forced to fight in this upcoming Jacobite rising and which delays his reunion with Julia.

Have only just started the ep, but:

I know Henry/Julia will (or should) never see Claire again, but they don't have to taunt us like that! 😭😭😭 Look at the newspaper Uncle Lamb! You picked the wrong week to give up!!!

Edit: Welp, Henry's trip to the 20th century didn't last long! Definitely not disappointed. Perhaps Julia and Henry will actually get to spend time together this season!

9

u/wheeler1432 They say I’m a witch. 20d ago

So predictable.

5

This show is like shit a teenager would write lmao.

20

u/Relative_Specific217 19d ago

I know the popular theory is that William is adopted by Brian and Ellen (which makes sense at this point) but after noticing what appears to be some kind of court in the opening song montage I have another theory that Henry and Julia flee to France and William is adopted and becomes the Comte de St Germain…?

I don’t think it’s as likely as the Willie storyline but it works because we know the Comte is a time traveler.

16

u/robinsond2020 I am NOT bloody sorry! 19d ago

It's definitely a possibility, but that would be SO horrible if William is the Comte! I would HATE that, that would be the absolute WORST!!!

I mean, he tried to KILL Claire! He's awful!

Give me "Faith survived" over "William is the Comte" any day ahahah. Now im scared

7

u/wheeler1432 They say I’m a witch. 19d ago

Could he be related to Amelie Beauchamp, Fergus's mother?

5

u/robinsond2020 I am NOT bloody sorry! 19d ago

Probably not by blood (if you were implying that he is the father of Amelie?), unless he had a child when he was like, 5.

It's 1715 currently. Fergus was born c. 1735. So that would make William 20 when his grandson was born.

3

u/hairunruled 17d ago

Since William can travel, what if the reason he’s separated from Henry and Julia is because they send him to the future. I’m not seeing any other reason why they would be separated from yet another child besides death or his safety. And maybe Henry stays in the past because Julia can’t travel.

3

u/Relative_Specific217 14d ago

Ooooh that’s a great point! I like that theory.

16

u/Sufficient-Jury-5865 20d ago

Last episode was too dark, this one was much better!!

16

u/buckytoothtiger 20d ago

I really hope they don't go with the Willie Fraser/William Beauchamp are the same person storyline...

but I feel like that's probably where they're going. 🙄

2

u/IllustriousKiwi3858 16d ago

Agree that was a very strange choice as the premiere episode

14

u/Joliedee 19d ago edited 16d ago

I admit I voted “loved it” with 24 minutes left to go, but I love it so far, and I so, so, so want a third season (and more)

Ioved seeing younger Rev Wakefield and Mrs. Graham interacting with Henry (and especially Mrs. Graham helping Henry 💗 I don’t know yet if or when he makes it). In episode 1, I loved that Julia told Davina about her time travel.

When the time travelers confide in someone, it’s always so satisfying

9

u/IllustriousKiwi3858 16d ago

Love how the younger Mrs. Graham matches the speech intonation of the original

4

u/Joliedee 16d ago

Yes! The casting is really good.

12

u/garbanzobean15 19d ago

10

u/Jigglypuffamiiga2188 20d ago edited 20d ago

So Julia was only able to travel when the baby was still in utero. Once born she lost the ability to travel, which means only Henry carries the travel gene. Not sure how that will work, if Julia can’t travel, how will she and Henry find a safe place to raise the baby? Also is the new maid gifted by the Grants the same girl from the brothel that Mr. Bug bought to serve him? Looks like Henry will be back soon, provided no one stops him beforehand. Definitely a better episode than last week, but I still worry where they are going with Henry and Julia’s story.

15

u/robinsond2020 I am NOT bloody sorry! 20d ago

Perhaps they won't find a safe place to raise the baby.

I predict a sad ending for Henry and Julia, given I reckon baby Beauchamp and Jamie's older brother Willie are the same person - Brian and Ellen adopt William, they are the safe place.

I think this was hinted at this episode, with the 2 mothers (Julia/Ellen) and 3 fathers (Henry/Brian/Simon) thing.

3

u/CheyLomm 20d ago

They should both carry the travel gene... Wasn't it supposed to be a "recessive" gene. That both parents had to have it, even if they were not TT themselves?

7

u/robinsond2020 I am NOT bloody sorry! 20d ago

I don't think it's been confirmed, nor do I think we've seen anything to infer that it's "supposed" to be a recessive gene. But nor am I saying it's definitely NOT a recessive gene - there's no confirmation either way.

To me though, it actually looks the opposite. It looks more like a dominant gene.

So far out of the Outlander characters who are related to each either by blood or marriage (so not including Donner/Richardson etc), the only people who can TT are descended from either Henry Beauchamp (and possibly Julia), or from Geillis Duncan.

None of rhe Fraser, Mackenzie, Porter, Grant, and Murray families appear to have the TT gene themselves. Obviously that doesn't rule it out of being recessive, but you'd think story/plot wise we'd have come across at least one.

Only 2 people with Fraser/Mackenzie/Porter/Grant/Murray blood, without Beauchamp/Duncan blood have attempted it (Jamie and young Ian), and neither have managed it. (I know 2 is not a good sample size)

Meanwhile every single known (known to the audience) descendant of Henry and Geillis CAN travel, with the exception of possibly Davy*: Buck, Jerry, Roger, Claire, Brianna, Fanny, Jemmy, and Mandy can all travel.

If it was a dominant gene, you'd have a 75% chance of being able to TT. And 75% of Claire's grandkids can TT.

And then there's the in-universe theory that the reason Jemmy and Mandy are so powerful/have a extra connection, is that BOTH their parents are TTs. So in-universe they are also hypothesising it's dominant.

*(and possibly William Beauchamp, but it's too early in the story to tell for him yet)

3

u/Jigglypuffamiiga2188 19d ago

If Julia can’t travel William has to have the gene, its the only way she could have traveled initially but not anymore (according to the seer) because he was in utero.

Did anyone notice the heavy foreshadowing/parallels? Claire playing with the horses and pretending they were 'falling'? Mrs. Graham's tea reading for Henry and her palm reading for Claire years later revealing a 'broken'/forked journey? It seems like they are at least leaving Easter Eggs for long-time fans to make the connections.

I thought this too but Jamie and the compte are in scenes together in france… there’s no way Jamie wouldn’t recognize his “brother”

10

Why does everyone think william is jamies brother william? I def dont see henry or julia ever giving him up and we know jamie isnt born for 6 more years. Do the dates match up because i dont remember when william was born? Or how much older he is than jamie. Was he born around 1714-1715?

14

u/Nelvea 20d ago

William Simon Murtagh MacKenzie Fraser, Jamie's brother from the canon was born in 1716. So it could work. Also note his first names... Major hints here.

Edit: spelling

Omg, if this is true…talk about jumping the shark! I really hope not.

5

u/Far-Piano-4577 20d ago

But wouldn't the kid be too old to pass off as a newborn. Even if Brian's and Ellen's kid dies/is stillborn a baby swap wouldn't work due to the ages

7

u/Nelvea 20d ago

Why would it need to pass as a newborn? Ellen and Brian could adopt him after Julia and Henry's deaths/disappearance.

2

u/Professional_Ad_4885 17d ago

That means claire and jamie share a brother in a semi quasi sorta way lol. Kind of weird when u think about it so i hope they dont go that route

3

u/robinsond2020 I am NOT bloody sorry! 19d ago

The theory that William is Jamie's brother Willie is essentially contingent on Henry and Julia dying - so they wouldnt be "giving him up."

2

u/hairunruled 17d ago

Exactly why would they give him up after being separated from their first child.

3

u/Professional_Ad_4885 17d ago

Ya makes no sense. They would have to both die

Just caught up last night. Episode 1 was almost too much to handle. I was thinking if that was Henry’s ultimate demise in the show, how tragic. Thank goodness for Ms. Graham. 🙏🏼

Once again though I find myself more intrigued with Henry and Julia’s story. I love their love story. I also think it’s because that storyline is still uncertain to me. We know ultimately what happens with Brian and Ellen, but I have no clue where we are going with Henry and Julia and it’s keeping me on the edge of my seat.

9

I hoped we'll see Murtagh falling in love with Jocasta but he seems not interested in her at all and he's more into Grace:(?

16

u/robinsond2020 I am NOT bloody sorry! 20d ago

She is married tbf. I really hope they dont do a love triangle between Jocasta, Grace, and Murtagh.

11

u/avviann 20d ago

Yeah, she is but from Outlander it seemed like they had a continuous secret romance going on. I also wish they don't make it into a weird love triangle because as of now Murtagh doesn't seem interested in Jocasta at all and it's sad to see Jocasta trying to get his attention.

5

u/BubbeLisa Currently rereading Dragonfly in Amber 19d ago

In Outlander, Murtagh was madly in love with Ellen his entire life. Jocasta even says that when Murtagh first brings Brianna to River Run. Their love story happened in America. Jocasta may have had a crush on Murtagh when they were young, but I don’t think Murtagh gave her a second thought until they were older and met again at River Run

Iol all this time i just assumed dougal slept with colums wife because colum was sterile and knocked her up. But it wouldnt make any sense for her to end up preggo with hamish this season. He was like12 in 1743 im guessing so that wouldnt be for another like 16 years from 1715

13

u/ContactNeither7319 20d ago

I doubt that's Hamish. It's too early for him. She probably will lose it.

5

This. I bet his condition might affect the viability of fetuses or something…

3

I also didnt known dougal and maura had 4 daughters. This isnt even talked about in the series. We just know of hamish and buck. Has letita even entered the fold in the series yet? If she has i havent seen her or just forgot.

9

u/BytheSea2323 20d ago

Yes Letitia can be seen by Collum's side in this episode, and a few other times in BoMB (like the funeral in S1 and the ladies circle before Ellen was going to marry Malcom Grant. She's easy to miss because she seems very meek to me in BoMB, nothing like the strong, proud wife of the Laird we saw sometimes in Outlander.

7

I’m hoping maybe this series will show how the characters came to be later…

Yes, one change i actually liked was that claires parents didnt die and swerved crashing there car and ended up at craigh na dun and going back in time to 1714. I was so much more excited for their storylines since i knew nothing about them and a lot about jamies parents history. Weve seen julia and henry together all of 15 mins this entire series besides when they were in their original time and henrys flashbacks. Julia and the castle leathers storyline got old after 2 episodes. Thats what made jamie and claire work so much on outlander. They were always up against something or someone and would split up for a time but never lasted more than an episode besides the 20 year split. Even that was summed up in 5 episodes lol. And it was actually really interesting the time they were apart. We knew they would be back and it made their love a million times stronger. Now julias been defiled by this ugly dude so many times and arch bug has the biggest obsession with henry. Like dudes got an actual hard on lol.

4

u/ContactNeither7319 20d ago

I was interested more with Claire's parents than Jamie's because one: they are time travelers, and two: because we know so little about them. Still am infested a bit more in the Beauchamps. I hope they find some sort of happiness.

I must say I am enjoying all the clan intrigue and dynamics much more so far this season.

I'm not sure which version of Arch Bug I dislike more. This young on or the old one. I just know I don't like Arch Bug.

Considering Hamish is significantly younger than Jamie and Jamie hasn't been born yet, it's not Hamish. They're likely setting up that Colum can't father children effectively and are planning for a future season where Colum has to ask Dougal for his help in securing his family line.

8

u/BytheSea2323 19d ago

Wherever all the possible ideas for more spinoffs may be floating around, I'm noticing people love Mrs. Graham... that might be an interesting show, more about all the experiences and tales from the Stones and fairies & all the magical /druid stuff.... granted it wouldn't really tie completely into the Outlander characters and storyline but it'd still be interesting I bet!

7

u/Ok_Dig8008 20d ago

The shot of Ellen in the chapel. Yes. It’s almost angelic the way it’s lit and also the window at the top has 3 circles, is that the holy trinity symbol?

10

u/ContactNeither7319 20d ago edited 20d ago

My thoughts as I watched this episode.

Ha! I figured that's how Claire was lead to believe her parents died.

Yes, Firouz! I'm glad to see him. And of course Uncle Lamb would leave before seeing the news blurb about the unknown army vet showing up. Sigh. It's probably better that way. It would have complicated matters if Uncle Lamb would have seen the article. Still sad to see him miss it though. So now Uncle Lamb and Claire are off to start their Young Indiana Jones adventures. (I still think that should be a spinoff all by itself.)

I really love Mrs Graham. ❤️ I love that she is telling Henry about the stones.

And all this before the opening sequence!

Lord Lovett sucks at rallying men. Ooo, so that's where Jamie gets his gift of gab to rally men to fight with him. Brian! Even his father Lord Lovett, is pleased.

Is what the seer Mairisi says true or was she telling lies or is she seeing two paths for Julia and trying to lead her to the one that leads Claire to become what she was destined to become? Or maybe something else is going on. But I don't think Mairisi is being 100% true about what she saw.

Ha! Dougal just found out he is going to be a dad too bad it's not his new wife who is pregnant. But I don't think it's Hamish. I think she will lose this baby.

Brian and Dougal fight. Beat him up Brian! Yep definitely were Jamie gets his gift of a clever tongue.

Who is Grace? I like her. Jocasta is being such a bitch. Murtagh is smitten. 😚

Yes Henry Escapes! Did I mention that I love Mrs Graham? She is a God's gift helping Henry with what he needs to go through the stones.

My heart aches for Julia. I'm sure Mairisi is telling Julia that Claire is not alone and safe to ease her worry but the knowledge that she probably won't see her daughter again hurts. And that prophecy about Lord Lovett's line is still confusing. Definitely don't trust 100% of what Mairisi is telling both Julia or Lord Lovett.

Yep, Seema is going to stir shit in the near future.

Brian and Ellen are roasting chestnuts? Oh, the prophecy of the chestnuts 🌰 I guess that means they are destined to be together. The chestnuts say so.

Okay, I really enjoyed this episode. Definitely want to see where they are going with all this.

7

u/BytheSea2323 20d ago

Lord Lovett just sux period. I really hate watching the scenes with the foolish, arrogant r*p!st... he's SO awful, too awful. If I was Julia, I don't know that I could have .... done what she did with him... but I'm not a mom so maybe I just don't get that "I'd do ANYTHING for my kid" thing.

Same question about Grace - hmmm...?? At first I thought she was the one in Philly who marries Henry Gray but nope, that's Mercy, I had to check.

Seema is another character I really don't like. She's no match for Julia but yep, another crap thing for poor Julia to deal with incoming! I like that Maisiri says something like "a father's love is with (Claire)".... we know it's Uncle Lamb, but poor Julia doesn't know which father figure :(

Maisiri (spelling, IDK) is another great casting choice between the older and younger version of the character! I like that they have her in BoMB, too. I love all the superstitious, magical traditions they include in both shows!

3

u/ContactNeither7319 20d ago edited 20d ago

I'm glad to hate Lord Lovett. Nothing is more fulfilling in life than having a good villain to hate. I hope Brian gets to kick his whining arse! Then I hope Henry gets to get chance to smack him around really hard! Maybe Julia gets to get a punch or two in or a knife in the thigh or soft not fatal but painful part of Lord Lovett's body. I'd love to see that. 🙂

I have know idea where Grace comes from but I like her. I think Murtagh likes her too. I thonkJocasta was jealous and that might be interesting to see how all this plays out. I believe though Grace is a servant in the Cameron castle and thus someone that serves Jocasta. Other than that I know nothing other than I really like Grace 👍

Seema is trouble walking. I didn't like her from the first time I saw her. She is gonna be other one I love to do some serious hating on. I think she is going to raise all kinds of hell. I wouldn't be shocked if she is pregnant or at least claims she is. But I agree with you she may think she is all this and that. But she is no match for Julia. Julia will smack her down so hard. Seema will never know what the fuck happened when Julia decides to make her move and strike. Can't wait to see it when it happens.

I love the mystical stuff so I love having Mairisi in the show 😍 Everything she does and says is so cryptic and vague its fun to try and figure out what she means.

I feel so bad and sad for Julia. I am glad Brian's mom has befriended her. I'm rooting for Julia to get some happiness 😊

I love how the relationship between Davina (Brian's mom) and Julia finally developed, and into a true friendship, too. And don't forget to give Davina a shot at Lovett to give back some pain, too. Maybe she's the front of the long line... he abused her, too, and first, remember!

I'm really hoping for some wins and relief for Julia, too. Like Claire, she's just getting hit with SO MUCH... even the extraordinarily strong have limits (eventually) and certainly deserve some peace, some joy too.

Davina can pull the knife, (Julia stabbed him with) out, then punch the wound really hard and maybe an extra punch just because, before leaving with the knife 🔪 and doing a drop-mike moment with her apron on her way out the door forever. And she didn't even start his dinner. 🙂

Overall, I think this was a very good episode. It flowed better and for some reason the acting seemed better. I thought Brian gave a really rousing speech to get supporters for the revolt from the Fraser clan. He seems like he has the makings of a great leader - like his son Jamie did. And I see the possibility of a romance with the woman who was told to watch him by Mrs. Fitz while she went bandages and salves to treat his wounds.

The potential romance I mentioned above is for Murtaugh.

I keep thinking back to the final season of Outlander; when a Mr Beauchamp came to the Americas and was talking to the group (to Lord John I think?) and Brianna made a VERY clear comment "HUH. You said his name was Beauchamp? What a funny coincidence that thats Mamas maiden name" and then they seemed to pause for a second and move on!

A lot of people are saying there were many lose ends in Outlander, like Fanny, Briannas Family, Claire/Jamie, etc.

What if that Mr Beauchamp is Clairs brother, and at the end of BOMB, its going to link to the end of Outlander??

6

u/Hilde_03 17d ago

Impossible. His birth name was Percival Wainright. He became Percival Beauchamp when he married Baron Amandine's sister. He took his wife's surname.

I love that we saw Firouz, Lamb's servant! I love those book Easter Eggs!!

Henry's storyline is tedious. I am sorry but I don't care.

Ellen and the brothers. That is what I am interested in.

Brian ❤️

I wonder how the contract storyline will progress...

Imagine Julia's feeling of devastation knowing she can't reach Claire.

What does this Arch Bug want?!

Brian and Dougal fighting !! Ok, I found it weird that Ellen stayed behind.

Murtagh and Grace... Well...

I LOVE Brian and Ellen.

Oh wow, I’m obsessed with Henry’s and Julia’s stories! Have been since the beginning.

Without the time travel element, and the perspective from the future, it’s just a historical romance with some family political intrigue. It’s well done, and I’m interested in Ellen and Brian’s threads too. It’s just more commonplace. Not as interesting to me

Julia and Henry’s stories could go so many ways and they have that depth of future perspective that made Outlander characters so uniquely compelling (and was why Claire was the heart of it)

But I’m here for all of it. I love how clever both women are. I like both the lead men too. And any more time we get to spend in that universe—sign me up.

u/BytheSea2323 20d ago

Yes, what was that with Murtagh and Grace? Is Grace someone from Outlander I'm not remembering? Does she go with Jocasta to NC?

6

u/Nanchika He was alive. So was I. 20d ago

Grace is a new character, not from Outlander.

A handful

u/goldenglisten 19d ago

I’m confused.

Surely the writers should be trying to “connect” BomB to Outlander.

I’ve taken maisri’s reading for Julia that she won’t be going back, and will live the rest of her life in the past.

So with that logic, the older generation in Outlander should know Julia and Henry from memory with how closely intertwined their lives were in BomB, yet they never mention any of them.

7

u/ContactNeither7319 19d ago

Just because it appears Julia cannot travel through the stones doesn't mean she or Henry stay in Scotland. Of course there is always the possibility either of them meet a tragic end. There are many possibilities that could happen that would explain why nobody instantly remembers them.

6

u/moonyriot 19d ago

Just because Julia lives the rest of her life in the past does not mean anyone remembers her or Henry or thinks of them as important. And we know that by Outlander, Julia is no longer married to Simon Fraser so it's not like she's Brian stepmom forever and has a close personal connection with him. And even if she had, Brian is long dead by the time Jamie meets Claire so who would mention this to her?

Are they butchering this show? Horribly. Yet it’s like a car wreck. I can’t look away.

5

u/jesushx 17d ago

It's sooo flawed and yet I'm still compelled to watch😅

4

u/Left_Bumblebee_6270 17d ago

Same. And while I wish the writing were better, I hope it’s renewed for season 3. 🤣

3

u/jesushx 17d ago

Same. I still gotta follow the story!

I like the actors, the scenery and the costumes a lot.

It occurs to me that young Claire in this show doesn't look anything like young Claire in outlander.

8

u/BytheSea2323 20d ago

Young Claire in BoMB *is* so perfect for how adult Claire grew up to look, though, adorable! (I remember thinking that the pre-teen Claire on a dig with Lamb in Outlander wasn't a good casting, though, didn't think she'd look like that)

My god, this really is just a show where people talk and almost nothing happens. That was so boring? I imagine you could skip this episode altogether and probably still have all the context you need for the rest of the season.

Also since our main couples are separated, Dougal and Maura made the mandatory sex scene quota for this episode.

It’s on me for staying up very late on a week day to watch this disappointing spinoff. I guess I’m just hoping every week that it manages to find its way.

8

u/BidIntrepid1750 20d ago

Mandatory sex scene quota. Dougal always delivers. Usually. I love it. That was hysterical.

9

u/yeehawdudeq I didn’t think I needed to pack condoms, Mama. 20d ago

I actually really like Dougal and his wife and kinda wished this episode had more than them just being horny for a few minutes

3

u/BidIntrepid1750 20d ago

Dougal so jelly Colum got Letitia pregs. I canna remember from outlander if they have children or only William buccleigh Mackenzie with Geillis Duncan

3

u/wheeler1432 They say I’m a witch. 20d ago

Daughters. One gave Jamie his first kiss and then he had the conversation with dougal about it. :)

7

u/BytheSea2323 20d ago

Mrs. Fitz's response was hilarious, yes! First she's scolding Dougal then she's like, "Oh, it's yer wife, I'm shocked but pleased!" Really good!

8

u/BidIntrepid1750 20d ago

I sooo LOL when Mrs. Fitz had perfect timing. Oh pleased to see you Mrs. Grant!

3

u/BytheSea2323 20d ago

Ah yes, that sounds like what she said, I couldn't remember exactly, only the "jist" of her reaction and whatever she said, thanks! I'm really glad Mrs. Fitz is in the show.

The only scenes that kept my attention were the ones with Ellen.

I have a genuine question; if Rev. Wakefield and Ms. Graham met with Henry multiple times after he came back through the stones, why was it not mentioned in outlander when Claire was at their house doing genealogy? Also, why did the police not notify next of kin, once he gave them his name?

15

u/BubbeLisa Currently rereading Dragonfly in Amber 19d ago

Henry doesn’t seem to remember his real last name. He is going by Grant not Beauchamp. The hospital doesn’t have his real name.

7

u/agggghhh 17d ago

To add on to this Henry has already forgotten Claire’s name as a result of shock therapy.

So the Reverend and Ms. Graham only know of Henry Grant, not Beauchamp, and don’t know he has a daughter.

2

u/Disastrous-Elk-5542 Pot of shite on to boil, ye stir like it’s God’s work! 19d ago

It’s not mentioned in Outlander (book or show) because BOMB is a TV spinoff only. But I see how it’s confusing because there were a LOT of connections in this episode.

I liked the episode. The dynamics between the Mackenzie siblings is one of the strengths of the show and I have the impression that Colum and Dougal got a bit more nuanced this season. Overall, I like when there are parallel timelines and the story leans towards time travel and the supernatural elements.
