Gutted for Tachikawa, but DK iced tf up.
Top 8 was a fun watch, and the crowd showed out. Evo France was great.

This was the hypest top 8 I've seen in a long while. A lot of people I wouldn't have expected in Top 8, no Mai/Ryu/Sagat/Blanka/JP, lots of emotions on the stage and insanely close sets.
What a show. And good shit to Dual Kevin. After being picked up by CR, what a way to represent. Man's been on the cusp of a big win for a long time but never quite landing it. So good for him.

What a great top 8! DK pulled the reverse sweep after the reset!
There's a lot to complain about in SF6 but it really is one of the goat competitive fighting games. Constant down to the wire matchups.

u/Terrible_Ice_1616 4d ago
And for as stale as the matchups can feel online there was quite a bit of character diversity

Online seems stale because some people will pick the best all rounder character at that patch.

😭
I remember when Dual Kevin was just a little kid challenging FChamp to a money match in UMVC3... and winning. And now that little Deadpool player is an Evo Champ in some other game!

u/Cosmic_Eye 4d ago
Tachikawa noooo
Also, Punk looked almost unstoppable, I thought he'd win this.

u/never_safe_for_life CID | VanDamage 4d ago
I’m no expert, but I feel like Punk has consistency issues. Like there he was about to take Tachikawa out, he took a perfect round at 2-0 (or 2-1?) and it was almost over. Then it all turned around.
Did Tachikawa just flip into overdrive? Or did Punk’s nerves give out?

Grats to Dual Kevin. And what a showing from Tachikawa.
Reddit/Twitter/Content Creators were already bitching about Viper+Elena moving up in the Japanese tier lists, wait till they see the ones that will come out post-Evo France.

they'll still all put blanka in S+ despite him completely dropping off the radar except for mena.

LOL, I like how a celebration of Dual Kevin and Tachikawa's amazing final set....
Turned into a rant about a character whose highest profile representatives mostly chose to sit out the tournament (e.g.Mena, Acqua, Shigematsu, Nishikin) . Mena also didn't participate but still got glazed. KingsVega is the only big game Blanka at this event.
I am not saying Blanka is over-rated / under-rated / correctly-rated... but I do like judging a character based on KingsVega's 25th place only. Goated.

u/Aggrokid noob 4d ago
Yeah a premier is a numbers game, due to SF6's competition size. Even round 2 is already loaded with sponsored killers. There was one event where many stud Kimberly's attended, and lo behold a few got through to final day.
5
u/TheRyanRAW 4d ago
The most prominent Blanka players aside from Mena are Japanese and don't travel much.
2
u/lewiitom bring back rose 4d ago
Yeah one of the recent world warrior events in Japan had three blankas in top 8 haha, and none of them were Shigematsu or Kingsvega
8
u/shaker_21 4d ago
Japanese tier lists are historically weird. SFV Gief got round after round of nerfs to the point where he couldn't even link his jabs anymore, and they were still puting him ridiculously high on tier lists just because Itazan is an animal in their ranked matches.
2
u/deathtofatalists 4d ago
far as i'm aware they always rank a character based on their theoretical maximum, so if the best player in the world plays a character, that is clearly the best character and needs to be nerfed. it takes no account of character specialisation or individual ability.
4
u/SgtTittyfist CID | SF6username 4d ago
Some japanese pros also straight up said "I am putting him this high because I hope it will cause him to get nerfed" lmao
4
u/Mask___DeMasque 4d ago
Only one prominent Blanka player was at the tournament, so you can stop the downplay.

wish there were more Blanka mains with all the complaints about him

Tough finish for Tachikawa after running the gauntlet of top 8, but Kevin has had so many close calls that I'm glad he finally got his Evo win while Tachi still qualified for CC with his performance. That was hype top 8, so glad I decided to tune in, only disappointment was Problem Xs Alex getting bodied in winners and then swapping to Ingrid in losers only to lose again. Every other set was a banger.
8
u/Greek_Trojan CID | SF6username 4d ago
His Ingrid match was legit though, did get downloaded at the end but he was very close to closing it out a few times.
6
u/jak_d_ripr 4d ago
Oh yea, it was a dope set, I just like watching his Alex so was disappointed to see him literally win one game I think in the entire top 8 with his Alex.

u/Lanky-Survey-4468 CID | Hot Super Saiyan 4d ago
That set was hype bro
I don't know how is gief x Alex match up but imo he should have picked him when the set was 2/2

Gief kinda just mog Alex if it comes down to neutral. So Alex have to out gimmick Gief by A LOT to win.

Well it was the last set
Alex could do Alex stuff for win or lose

Noooo Tachikawa :( really thought he had it. Insane performance from him all day, still waiting for a Viper to win a major... Great stuff from Kevin though, came back from so many tournament points.
Brilliant top 8 all around too, one of the best that I can remember in SF6. Great character representation and some fantastic matches.

u/Mask___DeMasque 4d ago
Really happy for Kevin. He's been so consistent and so close on so many occasions that he's really paid his dues for this win.
6
u/Crux_Of_Orion Can't nerf the player. 4d ago
I thought Tachikawa was gonna take it. That was such a run. But glad to see Rashid finally tame a tournament.
9
u/odd-taxi 4d ago
To be fair, before this EVO France, Gachikun won CPT Singapore 2023, DreamHack Dallas 2024 and DreamHack Birmingham 2026.
Big Bird won DreamHack Summer 2024 and Red Bull Kumite 2025.
While it's not a Capcom premier, Dual Kevin won this year's EWC LCQ which was INSANELY stacked.
Rashid is definitely one of the characters with the most tournaments to his name imo.

u/Chemicalcube325 4d ago
One of the first live EVOs I've been able to watch ever since I got into Fighting Games and Street Fighter 6. It was hype and I am so glad to see a high level Viper make it so far.
Definitely will be looking forward to seeing more of them in the future.

u/Peopleschamp305 CID | SF6username 4d ago
Honestly this is tragic for you because this was one of the best top 8s I've seen, it's likely it's all downhill from here haha
1
u/Onphone_irl Blanka Bully 4d ago
while true, once they start following people it'll be more fun at the same time. I'm new to sf6 myself, but I'm picking up who I like and don't like as players
2
u/Peopleschamp305 CID | SF6username 3d ago
yeah absolutely. I was being somewhat tongue in cheek since it's almost always hype watching these tournaments, but it also was really just one of the craziest and closest tournaments i've seen in this game.

That grands reset might go down among the most insane matches in SF6 history. Kevin was down on double match point THREE times, and he somehow managed to comeback from ALL of them. One of the greatest demonstrations of perserverance I've ever seen in a fighting game tournament, straight up.
12
u/hloupaopica 4d ago
EVO France once again the best tournament of the season. Insane comeback from Dual Kevin. Going from 2-0 down to winning final game final round with 30% life remaining

u/OrlandoNE Is my enemy close? No? Fuck it, SHORYUKEN 4d ago
Absolutely exctatic to see Kevin finally win. He's been steadily improving with each tourny and finally he did it. Fully earned.

u/RawIsLaw 4d ago
Tachikawa was on demon time but Dos Kev locked TF in last minute.
Amazing top 8 felt like a real knockout dragout fight. Dk wasn't my pick but I'm happy for him. He is a true grinder.

Kudos to Dual Kevin for wining Evo. It’s not easy. And a lot of great moments too.
Hats off to Dogura he put some amazing Elena skills on display.

Bro, almost felt bad for dk, this time he got this, he deserved, he has been consistently hiting top 8 at tournaments.

Amazing run from Tachikawa, and well fought win from DK, splendid matches.
The entire top 8 was a delight to watch, having 8 different characters was the icing on the cake.

8 different characters in top 8, including some that people on this sub complain are too weak. Will this stop the Ryu circlejerk? Probably not

u/Space_Lion2077 4d ago
As usual. punk choked in the matches that mattered. The footsie game was gone last the few matches. It's just all attacks and no blocks. He played it like it tns game in winners and losers final.

Dual kevin is arguably the most underrated player in the world atm
7
u/odd-taxi 4d ago
While OP's comment is dumb, I feel like Dual Kevin is very appropriately rated honestly. Everyone knows him as being one of the most consistent players in the world. He just needed that little extra something to win his first premier.
He's nowhere near the most underrated player, he's not even in the conversation imo.

Congrats to Dual Kevin. Mister consistency finally wins his first Capcom premier. It was long overdue and I'm glad he did it at EVO France.
What an amazing top 8! This is what fighting games are all about!
